For those of you who have not done this yet............. Set up your auto feedback and include a pleasant message on your packing slips stating the Buyer will receive positive feedback automatically when they leave positive feedback for the Seller.
For years I've been a manual feedback seller. When a Customer left me feedback, I gave them feedback. I never felt the "deal" was done until the Customer said so using feedback. With my line of products I had found I received roughly 25% to 30% feedback.
A few months ago +-..... I set up my auto feedback to give Customers their feedback when they left feedback for me. At the same time, I set up a "Message from Hurley_Byrd_IAS" that prints onto each packing slip. The message simply states that eBay will automatically give the Buyer positive feedback when they do the same for us.
NOW....... I am getting a LOT more feedback. I have not crunched the numbers yet but my feedback ticker is consistently going up faster. Wild guess, I am over 40% now.
One other note, I have pre-populated my pre-writen feedback lines and I have found eBay simply runs through that list and gives each Buyer a different line each time. It works really well.

I don't think there was a 'back in the good day', though - feedback has always had problems with retribution and misuse, one reason sellers could no longer leave negs back in...what...2008? 2011? Also, I suspect it's a very small percentage of bad actors who make purchases just to leave bad FB and 'hurt the competition' - it seems a clumsy way to go about it as feedback is subjective and the competition in just about any market is vast.

Maybe. I've given up on the whole thing and would love 30% feedback as you mentioned. I've sent pleasant notes, hand written notes, fast and safe shipping, nothing matters. In the world of Tik Tok, people 'can't be bothered.' Amazon doesn't bug buyers for feedback, it's just dead. I leave feedback as a buyer because I think it's the right thing to do, but it's archaic. They screwed the system when they made it one way.
