Will I ever learn?

My most recent positive feedback.

We've talked about giving free gifts here many many times.

Many of you say don't do it.

You say it will come back to bite you in the butt.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Will I ever learn?  LOL    😉

Have a great weekend everybody.

Will I ever learn?

Back story.

I have 2 variations of this sticker sheet.

They cost me less than $1 each.

This buyer bought one and sent me a "thank you" message after purchasing it.

I thought that was nice so i included the other sticker sheet as a free gift.

there you go.

now you will need to include a "freebie" with every purchase, or face retribution😁

As a buyer, I love free gifts, but it doesn't happen often.  Several years ago, bought a pair of SAS shoes on eBay.  These are expensive, even when used, but these were like new.  Seller included a package of brand new shoelaces.  Now the laces that usually go with these shoes are not the ordinary ones you get when you purchase shoes -- much nicer.  It was a real surprise.  Still have the laces in their original package because I haven't needed them, but every time I see them in the drawer, I get a warm feeling for that seller's kindness.

Most buyers who I give a free gift to are smart enough NOT to mention it in the feedback.

But every now and then....

So how did that go wrong?

I've been waiting for a customer to ask where their free gift is. I seem to keep getting "seller sent me a free gift" in my feedback and the only thing I put in the package with the item is a business card (which isn't much of a gift).

I can see both sides....in defense of the buyer, they may have mentioned the gift because they wanted to acknowledge it and didn't want to seem unappreciative.  Some sellers could consider the lack of mention as being ungrateful.

Will I ever learn?

When I sold live aquaria (fish and plants) on Aquabid, the practice of including freebies was so widespread there were buyers who would neg sellers who didn't send anything extra.  It was a big point of contention in those Community forums.  One thing all sellers agreed on was how frustrating it was when buyers didn't read descriptions.  -I'm sure anyone here can identify with that, but when living organisms are a factor it can be extra bad when buyers won't bother to read.

So I put a "Van Halen clause" (google it if you don't know) in all my item descriptions.  Toward the end it said, "If you read this description please send me an email saying "I read the description" and I will include free goodies!

"So I put a "Van Halen clause"

Wow that takes me back all the way to Glen Helen state park and the US festival II, we went the first 3 days Still have the shirt....Wish it still fit. LOL.

The Motels were so cooool around sundown (Top notch sound crew, her voice was so good there-Only The Lonely whoa.....). First time I saw Van Halen.....(and a few others)

Thanks for triggering that wonderful memory........................

So not true dy60609!  😁  I have included free gifts with products sold on other platforms and on my website. It is just a nice gesture. It does not mean I include a free gift with every order. But I always let the buyer keep the item if I accidentally send an incorrect item as a free gift (unless the buyer is not nice).  After-all, we all make mistakes occasionally and the buyer should not have to take the time to package and return an item if I am at fault. I'm old lol and sell on 4 platforms so  yeah I have made mistakes before . . . . .  comes natural! 😄
