Why

Why is Ebay telling me they are suspending my payments unless I agree to refund a customer that wants to return an item because it doesnt fit? I have a return policy and under the old system I did not refund until I received the item back. Is this part of the new Ebay payment system since they stopped with paypal? Not fair to me if it is. What if buyer doesnt return it ? Are they going to re-charge them? This stinks. I always honor returns as I have so few but I want my item back first. They are going to suspend payments for other items sold until I re-fund this?

Re: Why

No, they did not say they would freeze money for this transaction. They had already forwarded the money to me. They said they would freeze money on other sales until I agreed to accept and refund money. I read it, read the 3 options they offer in the rules and it said in the rules nothing about suspending payments from other items which have nothing to do with this sale. I have never had a single issue with Ebay or a buyer before or refused a refund. Sellers won't get this until it happens to them

@rubycat118

I posted up thread to you on this.

I believe you when you state that is what it said.  Really odd direction for e-Bay to go, unless since they had already paid you for this transaction, they would need to hold against future payouts if you did not refund.

Which is exactly what happens if e-Bay steps in and refunds for your inaction.

Re: Why

I had no inaction. The same day I received the request, I took action which is very strange to me the way it was worded. It was actually a few hours after the request. It wasn't like I ignored it for days or anything like that. This was not within any options Ebay gives you so that is why I'm questioning this and try getting ahold of a rep on the phone now. I could get the White House before they would answer. So many companies using Covid for excuses for inaction, not being able to speak in person, or simply their lack of knowledge on the phone. I'm considering when my youngest graduating, moving off the grid, lolol

Re: Why

I wonder if what Ebay was ham handedly saying is that:

They are going to suspend payout for future sales until you have enough money banked with Ebay to cover the return reimbursement.  Since it's likely ebay already disbursed the payment to you that is directly tied to that purchase.

Since managed payments pays out daily for many sellers there is no cushion to cover a return like many of us kept in paypal accounts.

So ebay isnt suspending payments until you refund.  They are suspending payments until you have the money in reserve to refund.

At least that is how they handled the money end when I had a return.  Once the funds needed to do the refund were in place, payouts resumed.  And I didnt have to refund until the item was returned to me.

Re: Why

@rubycat118,

They always put the amount for sale with the return request on hold. That's a given.

However, if they are putting all your funds on hold, that is because you are not considered an established seller yet (or any more), so that's a different policy.

You have not sold very much recently; you have not received or left any feedbacks for sales in the last month, and only received 3 feedbacks (and left 2 feedbacks) for sales in the last 6 months, and received/left 7 in the last year. So you are not considered an "established seller" anymore until you get more recent sales. That means that all your funds may be held until the items are delivered, if there are any issues with your account. As I posted earlier:

^^^ This.

eBay is only going to hold back the amount required to cover the refund. Beyond that they will send your payouts unless- like lacemaker said- you're subject to payment holds for a different reason not related to the return.

If you're still unsure you can post a screenshot of the e-mail and black out any personal info.

Re: Why

No There is money in account to cover. Haven't sold much on Ebay because of all the changes been selling on Craigs list or Poshmark with better results. I'm established and been with them for years. Just got sick of all the policy and listing format changes

"No" what? What are you disagreeing with?

You haven't sold very much in the past year, you have only received 7 feedbacks as a seller in the past year, and only left 7 feedbacks for buyers in the same time frame. Because of that, you are being evaluated as a new seller, but even established sellers may have payouts held if there are disputes, not as described cases, or return requests.

@rubycat118  Can you copy/paste the text in the message you got?  It's easier to help if we know exactly what this wording is.  I suspect it's new seller status, though - I should have looked at your numbers previously.
