Why not send buyers to Amazon, Mercari, OfferUp, and Etsy too? I swear every decision eBay has made in the past 12 months is to lose money, sellers, and users.

Those are not ebay advertisements.

Well, they are on eBay. At the top. I'm sure eBay knows about it and agreed to it. I'm not really interested in the politics behind it.

@the-hook-and-the-loop because they are so desperate for ad rev they'll just run anything Google inserts in that spot with no thought to how it may impact the eBay platform long term. 🙄
That top ad slot is a Google Ad spot, if you click the little triangle icon you'll see info about Google AdChoices that shows why they are displaying that ad to you.

Sounds right. I just recently learned about this TEMU site's existence. They have ridiculously low prices which would attract anyone. I thought it would be a scam, but it's more of a bait and switch. From reading reviews, buyers commonly say what they received looks more like something from the dollar store than what the pretty pictures show.

@the-hook-and-the-loop yeah I've seen several headlines that the TEMU app has recently been the most downloaded ecommerce app (beating Amazon, etc.). Don't know much about it, but definitely seems like an AliExpress/you get what you pay for kind of deal.

There is a plus to all of the ads and that is that they keep ebay fees low. Can you imagine what the fees would be without those ads? The best thing that any seller can do is NOT click and buy anything in those ads. I won't even click to view.

I’ve placed several orders with TEMU and been pleasantly surprised. No, the merchandise…clothing for instance…isn’t haute couture, but it’s well made and true to photos and descriptions. Very fast shipping, too, and stellar customer service. Also for kitchen gadget lovers like me, there’s a wide variety of quality items at extremely low prices. Oh and the shipping is free, no minimum.

I’m picky and have been more than pleased with everything I’ve gotten from TEMU.

I'm sorry but that is a contradiction. Most ads seem to be "We will pay you each time someone clicks."
So if you think the ad revenue is keep eBay fees low BUT you never click the ads then eBay does NOT get the revenue which you seem to think keeps the eBay fees low. So if they do not get the anticipated revenue, by your logic, eBay fees will go up.
Whenever I am on a free site that seems interesting I will always click a few ads just to help them stay afloat so it will remain free. Yes, I know eBay charges fees to the sellers - but to a potential buyer eBay is a free site.

I think you're confusing eBay's Promoted Listings program offered to eBay sellers with eBay receiving ad revenue from selling space on their site to outside retailers. They are two completely and totally different revenue sources. and do not have anything to do with each other.

I don't see ads. I use Adblock, won't use the internet without it.

It's a subsidiary of Pinduoduo which is a Chinese app direct-to-consumer. TEMU grows itself by a referral system through social media - people who refer buyers to TEMU get discounts and frequently free items. So basically, loads of cheap Chinese goods dumped on the doorstep without having to deal with the lumbering ancient called Amazon. "Why spend $40 for a bikini made in the US when you can have one for $4 shipped direct from China" - I wouldn't try to do anything drastic in that $4 bikini, though, at least in public.

I use an ad block as well.

I am thinking that those companies are paying Ebay to advertise here.
