Why the hold up?

So I have been a member of ebay for a number of years now. I usually buy, but I have sold a number of Items over the years as well. I have a 100% rating, never had a complaint. So this week, I sold a couple of items and shipped them promptly as usual. They are both domestic, standard USPS. Today is the 10th of January. So the items have already been paid for but, looking at the dates here, Im seeing the funds for one item are on hold until the 25th and the money for the other item is on hold until the 8th of next month. Im not understanding why. Now I know some business's will hold onto money as long as possible to keep in high interest accounts until new money comes into take its place as to maintain a certain balance yielding the high interest but, were talking about days. This is ebay. And they're holding onto it for 2 WEEKS on one item AND A MONTH on the other?!?! Whats the deal? They've held onto my money before but, that was just for a couple days. This is ridiculous. There has to be some type of legality or regulatory body that calls them on this. Its not right.  Had I known this, I would have sold these things somewhere else, because this is really going to screw me up. I have a  bill I need to pay, that isnt going to get paid on time now, which in turn is going to trigger this whole domino effect. Its the reason I sold the items. THEY NEED TO TELL PEOPLE BEFORE HAND IF THEY INTEND ON HOLDING YOUR MONEY FOR THIS LENGTH OF TIME!!!

Why the hold up?

Why would eBay send you any interest, if they make any?  You're entitled only to your cut of the total of the sale.

 They use to not earn interest, but in recent months they have changed that.  With that said, that is NOT the reason your funds are on hold.  I know others upset with Ebay for one reason or another would tell you differently, but this change is recent and the rules that have caused your funds to be on hold have been around for years.

Why would Ebay owe you any interest earned on your funds on  hold?  What would provide for that?

Did you read the links I gave you earlier.  They will tell you the specifics on the hold and what you can do.

Ebay is not looking to be protected with the holding of your money, they are protecting buyers.  I believe I explained that earlier in the thread as well.  "Asking about things Like that And not what the Hold policy is?"  Without understanding the hold policy, you can't answer your questions on how long and/or why.  But it is your choice to make.  To understand the situation or not.

Why the hold up?

Thanks for replies mam. I have No funds being held and am not Upset with them. am curious tho why they would not use this hold setup to their Advantage as a public company with a duty to Shareholders to maximize Profits. Your replies seem to indicate that they're not doing that?

Can you post a screenshot of how They determine How long to Hold funds? Maybe that would help Next time someone brings it up?

If you want to find a policy, you can search for it.

@h494_21

I previously posted this, but here it is again, maybe it will help.

Ebay has had a rule for many years that pertains to New Seller and sellers that have been away from selling for 90+ days. The following is the policy that outlines why you money is likely on hold.

Since managed payments ebay has earned interest.

Lift your left leg at midnight to start off on the right foot. Happy new Year!

That is not true.  Ebay started onboarding all sellers in July of 2020 and completed the process in late 2021.  Ebay did NOT earn interest on held funds until late 2023.

     Nobody has any way to prove that they simply did not acknowledge it until 2023. Anyone with any common sense knows it was taking place before either that or eBay has some poor accountants. I am not even sure you can find any kind of account that is non interest bearing to put cash into other than actually holding the physical cash.

     The funds are held in one of eBay's accounts, usually reported on their financial disclosures as accounts payable and/or cash. Sure they earn interest off of those funds as almost every smart company does it's a common accounting practice.

     They are not required to pay interest on held funds because there are no laws requiring them to do so. There are some states that require some businesses, such as banks, to pay you interest on certain types of held funds generally associated with escrow type mortgage loans.

Frankly, I think they would have been poor managers if they didn't earn money on hold money.

Yes there was and I published it a few times.  Back BEFORE they changed the policy to allow for them earning interest on held funds, the policy SAID that Ebay did not earn interest held funds.

I'm not sure what the accountants have to do with this.  IDK that they drove this policy.  I didn't say a peep about a non interest bearing account.  IDK, nor do you, how Adyen has it structured.

But as we know, they don't ask any of us for approval on any policy.

@dbfolks166mt

Here is some information regarding the old rule vs the updated rule on earning interest.

I hope that helps you to better understand that I was telling you the truth.  I don't make things up, while sometimes it seems you certainly try to make it look that way.
