Why so many canceled orders, buyer bought by mistake ?

I see so many sellers having this same issue a buyer pays then cancels right away saying they bought the item then paid for the item by mistake. You would really think ebay would put a little safe guard in their checkout to stop it. So so simple to do, I see it on many sites.

Agreed!  I ship things right away and there have been a few times I have had to take the item out of my mailbox.  Had the mail already gone, I couldn't have done anything.

Have only had to deal with it once recently. Someone made an offer. I accept. Pays the next day. Then not 5 minutes later requests a cancellation.

I wouldn't care so much, but I get to eat 30c. Not a lot of money, but it's the principle of the matter. Possibly just overly ditsy people. But perhaps some do it for nefarious reasons to cost you a little money and/or get your item out of stock for the time being. But that might just be my conspiracy brain overthinking things.

Although just realized in my case, it was probably a case of get offer accepted then see if she can find it cheaper. Then pay and ask for cancellation so she doesn't get an unpaid buyer ding.

eBay encourages this.. after the buyer pays eBay nicely tells them they have a hour to cancel with no issues AND also shows the buyer items that they could have bought. 

These items include other listings of the same item including cheaper items.

If the buyer chooses to cancel after payment the part not refunded should come from the buyer not the seller... but eBay would never.

Ebay has to stop this too. I had some woman just last week demand... cancel my order because I already brought on from somewhere else an forgot

 NOT my problem! I shipped it. Total bc that these people think this is wal-slocks...not. Pay attention. No cancellation  especially after you pay. Case closed.

You might have a principled stand, but that general attitude does you no favors.  After your comment, I made the rational assumption that your customer service has earned you a few negatives - and I was right.

Sticking to your guns might work out for you, or the buyer night destroy the item, file an NAD and stick you with a busted item and return shipping.

But hey, you do you and when it back fires blame everyone else.

I buy quite a bit and have never seen this - when did this start?  No wonder this is SO messed up on here.  Good grief.

My prinipal stand is ebay makes policies they do not enforce.  Ebay sales are a Contract of Sale. And by law cannot be undone just like a lease. Once you pay you own it. No ifs ands or buts. HOWEVER somehow enau buyers think they have the right to undi these contracts. GET IT.
