Why is there no negative option on feedback for buyers?

Good morning.   I am sure it has been explained multiple times but why it is possible to put negative feedback  when you are the one receiving the item but none if you are the one selling the item?   Seems like it is an incentive for shady people.  I have even seen people leave no choice but leave positive feedback with negative explanations.

I have to agree, I read OPs reply 3 times and I found nothing but a reply to a goofy feedback. OP was simply inquiring why the buyer left a P ?

I didn't see hostility or shaming, had that been me I would have asked to buy a vowel!

I disagree.

The seller would have been better off to have just ignored it.  The feedback received makes the buyer look like a nut, and as a buyer I would have totally disregarded it.

The seller's reply makes me stop and think - why did the seller only give half a refund?  Why is he selling digital items that may not even be allowed?  Do I want to do business with this person?

I'm a buyer who's not familiar with digital trading cards.  I do know that most all digital items aren't allowed. The first thing that comes to my head when I see that reply is the seller is selling things that aren't allowed and then only giving partial refunds if there is an issue.

Sometimes the best thing to do in the case of a wingnut feedback like that is to sit on your hands and keep your mouth shut.

Just my two cents, adjusted to a farthing for inflation.

Agree, sometimes best to ignore but that's their choice as evidence that they made their choice.

I'm unsure how all this grief was worth 65 cents.  I would rethink this 50% refund thing for a couple of reasons.  One being what transpired on this very transaction makes it not worth it.  And two, you have no right as a seller to do that.  If your buyer had of filed a claim, they would likely have gotten a full refund of the $1.75.  But then is it really worth your time.  Refund and move on.

You need to pick your battles better.  This simply wasn't worth it.

The way you responded to the negative also didn't do any favors to yourself.  Not only is it against the rules to respond like you did, but it simply doesn't look good to potential buyers that review your feedback before deciding if they want to purchase.

You need to make a decision.  Are you trying to make a real go of your small business or do you intend to make business transactions a personal afront on you when they don't go well?  If you had of put your business hat on you would have realized it was a bad idea to respond the way you did and you'd better understand why this sort of thing is against the rules.

It is NEVER a good idea for ANY business to name and shame their customers for any reason.  Which is why other similar sites have not allowed this for even longer than Ebay.  It simply is POOR business practice to allow this or to do it.

The listing is too old, so I was unable to call it up to see how well labeled you even had the listing for being a digital card.  You may have had it well labeled, but then you may not have too.  IDK as it is no longer available to review.  Do you have any current listings for digital cards?  Can  you provide us with an example please.

In what way is it against policy in a respond to feedback. I thought it was against policy, under positive feedback section to leave nasty comments.

Thanks for your response.

No magic words?  You know the magic words:  please and thank you.  Oh well, I'll explain anyway.

eBay removed the ability of sellers to give negative feedback to their buyers in 2008.  Management worried that buyers would feel inhibited from giving honest feedback to the sellers for fear of sellers retaliation.  You can see the rest of the story at https://pages.ebay.com/services/forum/changes.html  scroll down to #4.

Yep, I am guilty of being fearful and not leaving negative feedback.

I remember when there was no Money Back Guarantee and I was forced to keep anything I ordered.

Things are better in these respects.

Has nothing to do with 'weaponized' or 'retaliation' as it has to do with pure retail.

Is there a poster of the face of a bad customer in the window at Target? Walmart? Grocery Store? Drug Store?

No. Never will be.

Same with online retail selling.

On the other hand, the cheaper the stuff the easier it is to just refund and move on with your life.

I was able to pull up a listing of the same item which had ended Mar 06, 2022, item 154804365070 and although it may have been digital delivery, it wasn't listed as such. Another problem with the listing is the return policy which states, "Seller does not accept returns. If the item you received doesn't match the listing description, your purchase may be eligible for eBay Money Back Guarantee if the return request is made within 3 days from delivery." If the item doesn't match the description, the MBG allows the buyer 30 days to request a return, NOT 3 days!

There was a thing not too long ago where some trading cards only have three days now.

Sellers are not allowed to post negative comments in the Feedback or the comments to the Feedback.

Thank you for the correction on the return request timeframe.

The listing was still not listed as digital delivery as it should have been.

Some places have names and pictures posted at the cash register of people who have written bad checks, and for the checkout clerk to refuse to take checks from.  I've seen some of those.  But nothing in the front window.

That is usually on a very small business and not large businesses like Target, Walmart, Macy's, etc.  As they understand the importance of customer relations and how publicly naming and shaming customers can and will likely backfire on you and cause you less sales.
