Why can't We Sort by Number of Views

Seems odd that I can sort all my active listings by almost anything except views, views are more important than anything else, that tells me what buyers are interested in, is there a way to sort by item views?

Re: Why can't We Sort by Number of Views

Because right now they want to show how they are collecting views.

Better to sort by 'watchers' anyway, because someone viewing and not even putting it in their watch list is just a 'looker' and not really interested.

Hi @ten_o_nine

'Views' have always been considered a notoriously unreliable statistic since I joined eBay 17 years ago.  I can't imagine anyone making important selling decisions on Views.  Just sayin'.

Why not? at least it means people are searching for the brand name or the model or or, don't ignore page views. They may be unreliable for others but are important to me as a seller.

So, what's reliable? Watchers? That's not reliable but sortable, item price? why does that matter to sort as a seller, maybe to see your most expensive items but will not help as a seller. Page views are becoming more important in sorting since ebay went to a 30-day rule.

@ten_o_nine

Unreliable … meaning ‘inaccurate’.

Thank you for explaining, I thought unreliable meant accurate

There has never been anything that has been reliable. I've had items rack up thousands of views and not sell. I've had items sell after only a single view.

Sales are a pretty good gauge of how popular a item is.

Views can be helpful also. If you sort by the ones with the most views you can start lowering your prices until they are in line with what buyers expect to pay. The more the views without a purchase the more unreasonable the asking price is.

Re: Why can't We Sort by Number of Views

Every time Ebay brings something new to their software, things get messed up. Glitches, search engine problems, low or no sales etc, are all sequences of that. And you want a sorting by views? Ebay has just restricted the bots from being counted as views, and there were problems. No thanks, I do not want a sorting by views!

You may find this interesting -- or not.

I've viewed hundreds or maybe thousands of listings with no intention of ever buying them.

Same with watching listings.

My question was simple, why can't we sort by views? When other fields are sortable.

Not sure I follow this logic.

It is practically a sport for sellers on this board to pick apart another seller's listings and pointing out their shortcomings - whether it be poor pictures, the wrong category, or a typo in the title.

Why wouldn't a seller want to use his own view count as one of many tools to identify potentially underperforming listings to see if there might be any mistakes to be fixed or improvements to be made?

If I had a listing I knew in my gut should be betting more action, the first thing I would do is make sure the listings was not the issue. But it's not always obvious when you have a whole bunch of listings.

 Further ...

On my active listings screen I can already sort by watchers, bids, and quantity. It seems strange that a similar column with an integer numeric value is not sortable like the others
