Why are so many eBayer’s not leaving feedback???

I was a PowerSeller for several years then took about 10 years off. I have recently started selling again and I do excellent packing and communication. Sell quality stuff etc.. Out of 14 sales, I only received 4 feedbacks. I looked at the buyers page and they don’t leave feedback for anyone. They get tons of positive feedback and leave zip, nada, none!! Can anyone tell me why this is???

Why are so many eBayer’s not leaving feedback???

Till I played round robin with store levels I had it set up to auto leave it when they buyer left theirs, but I would go in every few days, record the orders, check and see if items were delivered and if delivered leave feedback, then archive the order.

This system has worked for me since day 1.  In 12 years I got ONE complaint about how they hadn't gotten feedback yet (20 minutes after purchase), explained to the buyer what I did for feedback, and proceeded to wait till they had the item then left feedback.

After playing round robin with my store levels I have forgotten how to get that system set up so the auto feedback isn't working any more...  Any one remember where that is so I can go click it again?

As of today I have left 9,167 received 5,969 of which 3271 count (repeat GPK buyers buying 20,20,400, 200, 20 individual cards mess up the count)

I hate photobucket right now... PS Answers given years ago may or may not be current now, please check with current posters to the boards to see if the information is still relevant.

I leave feedback for a sale after I receive feedback from the buyer.  Is that selfish?  Perhaps.  However, when I received positive feedback, I know the buyer is pleased and it is appropriate to leave feedback for the buyer.

If a seller automatically leaves positive feedback for a sale when the item is paid for, if something goes wrong, such as a scam, the buyer already has positive feedback for an experience that truly was not "positive."

Just my take on it.  I too do not obtain feedback for every sale.  I DO leave feedback for every purchase I make.

Why are so many eBayer’s not leaving feedback???

I am an 'old school' buyer (since '01) - and the majority of the items that I purchased are used one way or another.  In all my years a buyer, I've only left two (2) sellers negative FB (a recent one on this id and one on my original id).  When my item arrives, I open and leave FB and 99.9% is positive.  The one on this id was because I ordered wooden letters and received wooden numbers - seller did not pay for return shipping or even offered to send the correct item, which was all I wanted, so I just closed the request and the rest is history.  I only 'explained' the negative on this id in the event someone wanted to know.

Some buyers think that since they paid for the item, their job is done.  It would be nice if they did, and I do not think that eBay will do anything if they don't.

I leave feedback thanking the buyer when I ship. I don't bother to look to see if they give me feedback or not. No feedback is good feedback as far as Ebay is concerned.

The buyer gets tons of positive feedback because that's ALL they can get - positive. (or none)

I sold on Amazon from 2007 or 08 until 2016, sold 400 or 500 books in that time, I'd have to go back and look. My feedback score there was FIVE.

Feedback just isn't a thing anymore I guess.

Not everybody needs the lollipop for a basic online transaction - those days are long gone and purchasing online is pretty much routine.  I leave FB to thank my buyers when I ship and to let them know their item is on its way, and appreciate it when they leave FB for me.  That's as far as I will take this voluntary program. I do leave it as a buyer on eBay, but I think I've left 10 FB on Amazon in 26 years of buying there, and I've probably purchased hundreds of books, not to mention a load of other stuff.

1) you recently resumed selling.  Some buyers just take a while to leave feedback - I often receive feedback after a month or longer after receipt

2) buyers that leave for multiple items in the same order will only count as 1 positive feedback point

3) no feedback is not a negative - how often do you take time, after a purchase at a local store, to write a positive review on Google?

4) buyers often leave no feedback if the transaction was just so-so

5) feedback is a gift - and no one is obliged to give a gift 🙂 not even eBay, on their 25th birthday!

6) Certain categories will likely fare better in feedback - I'd think that your items will go to buyers that like to tell you when they are pleased

7) I'm probably at around 60% feedback - but I haven't cared enough to do the math, not with an average of six transactions/day

😎 Buyers seem to provide feedback when you do something above-and-beyond - maybe fantastic packing, getting the shipment out very quickly, upgrading postage, etc.

@inhawaii

Should i leave feedback when the buyer pays -or- should i leave feedback when the buyer leaves me feedback?

As others have said, feedback is voluntary -- there is no wrong time to leave positive feedback if you are happy with your transaction.

However, if you want to receive positive feedback from buyers, leaving positive feedback first is one of the few things you can do to encourage getting positive feedback (aside from doing your best to make sure the transaction goes smoothly -- I am assuming you are already doing that).

Some users almost always leave positive feedback; some almost never do. There is not much you can do to positively encourage those users to act any differently.

Some users, on the other hand, always wait for the other party to leave feedback first; if both parties to a transaction wait for the other to blink first, neither will get feedback. For those users, leaving positive feedback first is the one action most likely to result in you receiving positive feedback in turn.

'Sides, they don't have to leave feedback, and it takes so much time and thought.

But good service should be table stakes.  There's no reason to expect the little gold star for being a good girl/boy and simply doing one's job and a buyer being suitably 'grateful'.  Someone purchases an item, the item arrives, all is good. End of transaction.  When I purchase something from a retail store, is one expected to return and thank the manager for those good tomatoes or that great pack of 3 t-shirts?  I think it's great when a buyer takes the trouble to leave feedback, but I don't expect it.

If I weren't a seller, I probably wouldn't leave it.......unless the transaction was bad or extraordinarily good....

As a buyer, I leave feedback when I get the item.  As a seller, I leave feedback as soon as tracking says delivered.

Why are so many eBayer’s not leaving feedback???

It may be that no news is good news in this case. Leaving feedback used to be a common thing years ago now days not so much. It has become like a lot of things these days as long as everything is good with the transaction buyers sometimes just don't want to go through the process they are juggling a lot of other things in life. However you can bet the chances of getting negative feedback are higher if the buyer is not happy with the item.

As a seller I always leave feedback for the buyer although it may not be immediate. I generally wait till the buyer has received the item and had a few days to address any issues or take any actions. There is simply too much scamming going on these days because  eBay makes it so easy to do.

Why are so many eBayer’s not leaving feedback???

There is so much to say about feedback, but bottom line, I feel it needs to be phased out.  The time when it served a limited usefulness on this site has passed.  Thankfully ebay stopped using it as punishment for sellers, in the form of defects, which easily lead to blackmail episodes for many.

Now a common use for feedback is new sellers are being targeted for scams.   Sure, new sellers need to learn the ropes, but why single them out with this (0) neon light next to their ID?

I don't understand exactly.  The fact that you may discover that something has gone wrong with a sale after you've left positive feedback has no effect whatsoever on your actions if you discover that something has gone wrong such as a scam.  Buyers can only receive positives anyway.

Why are so many eBayer’s not leaving feedback???

I am not sure what their reasons are for not leaving feedback.  What you don't want to do is contact buyers asking for feedback, because some buyers only leave feedback if there is a problem.    Such feedback is generally a negative or a neutral or a case in the Resolution Center, followed by negative feedback.

As for me, I leave buyers feedback when they pay.  However, when I buy from sellers and pay, I never receive feedback, except for one International seller.

I suppose such sellers are waiting for me to leave feedback first.  This will never happen.

What I find annoying is buyers who send "Thank You" emails and never bother to leave feedback.  Lately, I have been thinking about phasing out feedback as it has no benefit for me.

In your case, let it go and keep selling, your feedback will slowly increase.

Generally, I leave positive feedback when the buyer pays.  After all, they met their obligation and I didn't have to bother with "Unpaid item Assistant".   Besides, what is the point of waiting for the buyer to leave feedback?
