Hi all! 

Today I got following popup

We recently reached out to you about a change in German VAT law and your need to identify as a business seller. Please upgrade your account to business in order to continue listing on the German site or items located in Germany.

I'm not from Germany, don't have Germany VAT Nr., registered in ebay.com, and many years don't use German site ebay.de,  not selling anything in German site, and not interested to sell in future too. Do you have any ideas, why I received this message, and how to resolve it without Germany VAT?

eBay can be held liable for this, so they are making sure they pass the liability onto the sellers who need to pay these taxes and do tax returns. So now, once you pass a sales limit they are forcing sellers to upgrade to business and will be reporting all your sales data to HMRC in Jan 2025.

I got the same alert message when I created a new lisitng on ebay.com. I did not sell on ebay.de for years though.

Finally, after 4 days, I was unblocked. I did not switch to a business account, everything remained the same.
All I did was write to the customer service again.
This time they responded quickly from customerhelp_de@ebay.com and fixed everything.

after contacting them again that's what i got:

First of all, we sincerely regret for the inconvenience you are facing due to this situation. I fully understand that you are not selling commercially and you are concerned about the notification you have received about the restriction on the account. I will surely check and guide you further.

I would like to inform you that we have been receiving many such contacts, where many members are facing this same issue. Please do not worry, we have already reported this issue to our concerned department on priority basis and it will be resolved most likely within 24-48 hours. I request your cooperation and patience till the issue gets resolved.

These messages are a pre-prepared and are sent all the same to all the "angry" people, that contact them.

Sorry, but ebay is getting worst and worst place for selling over the years.

I don`t think so. I will be the same. If someone with only two brain cells buy something and don`t know what to do, will ruin you with negative feedback and your item + money will be lost forever. So... no any difference.
