Hi all!
Today I got following popup
We recently reached out to you about a change in German VAT law and your need to identify as a business seller. Please upgrade your account to business in order to continue listing on the German site or items located in Germany.
--
I'm not from Germany, don't have Germany VAT Nr., registered in ebay.com, and many years don't use German site ebay.de, not selling anything in German site, and not interested to sell in future too. Do you have any ideas, why I received this message, and how to resolve it without Germany VAT?
P.S. Answer "contact support" I know 🙂

The Digital Services Act was announced on the eBay.com website. On all eBay websites, as far as I can see.
The Digital Services Act applies to all sellers who live in Europe, or sell to Europe on any eBay website. Not just sellers in Germany. Apparently Germany started to enforce it first, but now it applies to all of Europe. eBay should update the notification they use, it is out of date.
I posted the explanation from eBay Germany because that was where I found the explanation, but it applies to all sellers in Europe.

The error says to become business seller in Germany.
You are not in Germany.
No one here is.
This is definitely a bug.
Otherwise they would ask you to become business seller in your country.
The problem is for the sellers who sold in the past in Germany.

Actually, no it doesn't. It just says you need to change to a business account, it doesn't say you have to do it in Germany.
You can only register as a business in your own country, so you need to do it there and provide the information on your eBay account.
The notification is out of date. They are still using the same notification they used when the law went into effect in Germany several years ago. They should update the notification, and say "European Union" instead of "Germany".

I know what the message says. I already read it. It's out of date. It should say "European Union" not "Germany".
eBay has to comply with the Digital Services Act (DSA), which is a European Union law. It's mentioned on all eBay websites.

I'm not posting nonsense. All sellers in the EU should be aware of the DSA.

so that means it's not a general problem but solved on sellers basis. did you get any response from ebay?

You don't need to close your eBay account, you can update it with the necessary info and transform it into a business account. A friend of mine did this, he kept his 15k feedback account transforming it from individual to business.
