Why Is It NOT possible for regular sellers without a store, to set an AWAY / VACATION status ?
I need to go away for 4 or 5 days and wish to keep my items active, but make it clear I am away.
This option should be available to EVERYONE !
If you are reading this and agree,
please like to show as a vote, hopefully it will make eBay notice.
Cheers everyone
Andy

1st part of reply is general to all telling OP to open a starter store
ebay. au doesn't offer a starter store the lowest is Basic at $24.95
2nd part ebay.au doesn't get 50 freebies they only get 40
3rd
to hyrdo_andy
ebay isn't going to offer this perk to non stores
I have several accounts & the non store accounts I have to end my listings when I go on Vacation or when life happens.
With the stores sellers may have the Vacation perk but we can't schedule listings or add buy it now without a fee which non stores can do.
We also pay for our store listings & are not allowed to use the entire store allotments of auctions unless it is in ebays approved/allowed categories, Non stores can list their free allotments however they choose.
So with that said you can take the advice of others & extend your handling time which many buyers pay no attention to & get angry when items aren't shipped as fast as they would like or you end and then relist when you return.

It's not available to those without a store because those with a store pay for that option.
If you want that option, you can get a store.
If you don't have a store, extend your handling time or end your listings accomplishes the same thing.
If your listings naturally end before your vacation, you would have to relist them after vacation anyway.

Agreed.
Every seller is different, and there are many valid reasons for not having a store.I've never had one, even though I average somewhere around 5,000 items a year. But a store simply does not make financial sense for me, so I don't need to spend that money.
That aside ...
OP, while I understand your wish, the cold hard truth is that eBay offers those perks to sellers in order to sell them a subscription. Wall Street always wants a company to show recurring revenue because they value that stability.

I did not see that.
@myjunqueyourtreasure wrote:As someone who PAYS for a store, of which one of the "perks" is being able to use a vacation setting, I'd like to have the perks YOU get as a non store. Free BIN with auctions. Free scheduling fee. How about it? Fair's fair after all.
I don't think anyone here would be against adding more perks for store subscriptions. I guess I don't see the need for all this "us vs. them" antagonism 🙂

Sorry you got so many replies that did not answer the question.
When one travels, they could take the store with them and just change the location of the items - use the bulk edit tool to do that!
Otherwise, if one knows they are going to be away for a set period, go in and change your handling time to a period that will allow you to return home and ship the item, on time. Might be able to do this with the bulk edit tool if one isn't using business policies. Otherwise for 50 or under, a quick edit of the handling time is easy enough. Just do it while watching some mindless TV show and be done in under an hour!
So one doesn't need to "join the club" to in effect do the same thing, just take a little bit of time.

Caustco, mate

Because ebay ran the cost benefit analysis and decided it would not benefit ebay's bottom line.

I wish they'd just do away with the setting entirely.
As a buyer is is awful. Show me only the top 500 of the over 10,000 items listed on eBay that match my search and then show me something that I cannot expect for 2 weeks because the seller is "on vacation"
There should be an option to hide all your listings, but as a buyer, i only want to be shown items that I can buy and receive in a reasonable time frame.
Over christmas I cannot tell you how many items I'd see that were "on vacation". Newly listed items, that posted an hour ago, but the seller is "on vacation' and will return in 2 weeks......

My bad as far as the OP being in AU. I guess I should have checked.

What a miserable reply this is...
I went looking for a simple setting to mark myself as away, no biggie I thought..
At first I thought it must have been ME doing something wrong, ignorance and all,
so kept looking, cause knowing how might come in handy sometimes,
eventually I found the reason..
By that stage, maybe I was a bit jacked, so I made a post.
Now I learn it is a perk of a paid feature, I also learn that snarky people with nothing better to do live in this world.
I have had some great responses & tips, "just adjust the handling time" = I like.
(follow a sale up with a quick message too)
I'll step back away from your world so you wont need to see me again.
I'll go on my holiday, you can linger here 'helping'.
Have a nice life.
