Why Is It NOT possible for regular sellers without a store, to set an AWAY / VACATION status

Agreed.

Every seller is different, and there are many valid reasons for not having a store.I've never had one, even though I average somewhere around 5,000 items a year. But a store simply does not make financial sense for me, so I don't need to spend that money.

That aside ...

OP, while I understand your wish, the cold hard truth is that eBay offers those perks to sellers in order to sell them a subscription. Wall Street always wants a company to show recurring revenue because they value that stability.

I did not see that.

As someone who PAYS for a store, of which one of the "perks" is being able to use a vacation setting, I'd like to have the perks YOU get as a non store. Free BIN with auctions. Free scheduling fee.  How about it? Fair's fair after all.

I don't think anyone here would be against adding more perks for store subscriptions. I guess I don't see the need for all this "us vs. them" antagonism 🙂

Hi, as a regular traveler, it is tedious to end all my listings and relist when I return, but i do it, not having a store. The vacation setting is a perk for store owners and a very nice one. Since they pay for the privilege, I think it is not likely non-store members will ever be granted the option.

Possibly because one can't be a serious seller if one does not have a store.

Without a store, why would one need or rate a vacation setting - it's just a hobby, after all.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

Don't expect ebay to make that option available for non store sellers anytime soon.

"why would one need..."
Funny answer maybe, but something comes up, as things do in life..
and you "need" this feature to allow buyers to see if they 'Buy it Now' there will be a delay..
..seems fashunu4eeuh would make use of such a feature, 'if' it was available, I know I could use it right now too.
The idea of ending everything, then re-listing, umm great.
I always thought it was available to everyone before today 🙄
I went to apply the 'away' setting only to end up going "down the rabbit hole" to eventually end up here.

LIke many other perks in life, it comes down to you have to pay for it. It is one of the reasons I have a store. And my guess would be that some non-store members would have a tendency to possibly forget about their listings (easy to do when you only have a small amount listed and/or it isn't your main job). Ebay probably just doesn't want the extra bother. Unless sellers are willing to pay for it.

I've never had an ebay store yet at several time points inbetween other gigs I've made a very comfy living here. I guess I'm a great hobbyist!

OP as far as vacation settings, yes it's a perk. Perks come with membership fees. Like better parking spaces or complimentary coffee. No one doubts you're a serious seller. You just have to go without the option, or pay up for it.

I`m interested in how many listings you have. I`m guessing it`s 50 or less or you`d more than likely have, at least, a starter store. Being that you aren`t a store subscriber you get 50 free listings a month. Being that I am a store subscriber I don`t get the 50 free that you do. If you want the perks of having a store you should probably get one. They come in many levels now to suit many needs and if you are listing over 50 items a month it could actually end up cheaper for you if you do the math. EX: I get 1000 BIN listings with my store subscription and use them all every month. It`s much cheaper to have the store sub. than pay to list 1000 plus I get the perks.

Have you considered lengthening your handling time to accommodate the time you will be away? It takes less than 5 minutes to change it in bulk. Just food for thought.

If the amount you have listed is less than needed to pay a store fee just end the items. You can relist after your vacation. Not that big a deal as Ebay gives 50 freebies a month.

I`d also like to add that many buyers don`t even notice that tiny "your away" warning at the top of the listing. There are other issues with the vacation setting that I won`t bother to get into. I`ll put it this way....I now block people from buying when I go on vacation, this way I have no issues.

I must admit that I generally had no more than 10-15 items up at a time, when I was selling here.  I never had a store, and I never thought of ebay being a job, where I had to submit a vacation request - a get a surgery request, a get a shoveled out 'excuse', etc., just to be safe and give notice that I would be gone for a day or 3 or 7 or 10 or a couple of years.  Then, again, if something came up, I would close things down (planning, and all) or it could ride (emergency or very unexpected) and most my clients were intelligent and reasonable enough to understand that s....tuff happens.  ( I know, I know, 'back in the good ole days' )

Why is it not possible for sellers to understand that sometimes you have to pay for better features?

For $7.95 you can get a 1 month subscription to a starter store...

Man there are some snarky replies on this thread! Not everyone has enough items to warrant a store!

When I need to be out of town for a few days I simply change my handling time..easy to do using the edit function. Sales slow but I don't have to go through the hassel of creating new listings that way. If someone buys something and the handling time is 10 or 15 days, I usually send them a "thank you" and a head's up about extended handling time. I have had one person cancel sale because of extended handling time. I often change the handling time as my time away changes to reflect when I will be able to ship items again.
