Why Am I Being Sent to Collections??

Hi everyone. I had some difficult issues with a buyer the beginning of the year. She falsely claimed to not have received an item and I won the appeal. The issue went back and forth and she eventually filed a chargeback. I filed a claim with my bank and they protected me from the chargeback. Fast forward to today, eBay has sent me a few emails regarding a balance I have to pay to Global Collections. I’ve ignored them as I know I did nothing wrong in this situation and I am a victim to fraud. I’ve just received a email that they will progress the situation and send it to a debt collector. At this point, I have no idea what there is left do. Is there any contact information or a routine process  that I should go about? I’ve won every appeal and my bank has protected me but yet they want to send me to collections rather than the fraudulent buyer. Any advice or contact information would be extremely appreciated.

If it's not a lot of money, I would just pay it.

Try to pay eBay direct before it goes to collections.

As far as eBay is concerned, you have to make things right for your eBay buyer. It does not sound like you have done that.

eBay doesn't care what your bank told you about your eBay transactions ... eBay says you have to make things right for your eBay buyers. ... that means that you have to pay eBay back for whatever they repaid to your buyers. That is all on you.

I think the global collections is eBay and the OP said this

"I’ve just received a email that they will progress the situation and send it to a debt collector."

So I thought they might be able to avoid it and the extra fees that will ensue.

If you are being sent collection notices to pay a debt you owe to eBay. Ignoring those collection notices is not a wise decision and could impact your selling account and your credit.

It doesn’t matter how small the amount is, it will impact your credit score for 7 years.
eBay can also ban you from buying or selling on their site.

When you had your bank intervene on a chargeback payment eBay had to foot the bill and now they want to be reimbursed for a refund you should have given your buyer in the first place.

The OPs course of action is to ignore the notices of collection…..not a wise plan.

While I would not advise to just toss such a notice.  I have received  a number of them addressed to the former owner of the property.  They are all just scare ware.  They just send them in bulk hope to collect.  I was receiving phone calls from an agency.  Took a year but they too just go away in time.

It it's from eBay, they will close your account if you don't pay.

If you want to have an eBay account for buying and selling I would pay what you owe.

Otherwise, your account and any new account might be deleted.

And eBay doesn't forget about fees owed...this will be for years until it is paid.

And it will be on your credit reports(3) as well.

I understand that but they lost all appeals due to fraudulent behavior and decided to take it to her bank rather than accepting the ebay appeal decision. Why should I have to make it right for a fraudulent buyer considering the decision was ruled in my favor

Why would I refund a buyer when I won the appeals against their fraudulent behavior? I only intervened with my bank because the buyer was unhappy with the several appeal decisions ebay has made in my favor and decided to file a chargeback.

She falsely claimed to not have received an item and I won the appeal.

@vangons-0

What was the reason given for the chargeback?   Was it different than "item not received" (INR)?    If it was for  INR, then you should have had some seller protection for a chargeback for the same reason as the eBay claim.
Take a look and let us know.

I’m honestly not worried about them closing my account. Dealing with a fraudulent buyer can completely ruined my experience on ebay. I understand ignoring the notices isn’t the best course of action but ebay isn’t necessarily the best when it comes to contacting someone for help. I hope you’re right and that it is scare ware

I agree but unfortunately we’re looking at a pretty big amount. I’m also a college student and not looking to pay hundreds for something ebay has ruled in my favor for.
