When did this start?

I don't know when it started but I've been selling on eBay for right around 5 years and the Allstate (or Squaretrade as it was previously called) warranty plans have been showing up on some of my listings from day 1. These are third party vendor plans offered by the insurance company Allstate, eBay adds the plans to listings at it's discretion and sellers do not have the ability to opt out. The good news is that if a buyer decides to purchase one of these plans when they buy your item you're not the seller for the plan and as such you're not on the hook for it if the buyer decides to cash in. The bad news is eBay doesn't even make an effort to inform buyers that these plans are being offered by a third party vendor, not the seller of the item they're buying. The end result is that sellers sometimes have to deal with peeved off buyers (and possible negative feedback from said buyers) who think they got scammed when sellers refuse to honor these warranties that we never offered and have no control over.

The newly branded Allstate warranty is showing up on the most ridiculous items as well. Think small plastic action toys for example LOL

It started years ago.  One of those special "eBay algorithms" sticks it on the listing whether it makes sense or not.

It is from this "Top Rated Seller", but as @bossesale77  pointed out, buyers will think this is offered by the seller of the product.

@dhbookds

You don't really need to go to the buyer board:

You know what a switch plate cover is? That little piece of plastic that you screw over the light switch on the wall.

Some years ago I had some with sports team logos. eBay added:

ADDITIONAL SERVICES AVAILABLE

Installation - $35.00

SERIOUSLY?????

I still have a couple available but that ad on is no longer shown.

it's added by ebay, nothing you can do about it, they decide. As mentioned your not charged or have anything to do with that part the sale. But someone trying to make a claim may find it a nightmare to collect from it.

The great truth is there isn't one
