I'm starting to enter UPC's for items that are new with tags, but I'm running into occasional ones that don't have the standard 12-digit number under the barcode. These pants (see photo) are a good example. They have only a 8-digit number, so not surprisingly, Ebay rejects the number as a valid UPC. Is there some trick to this? I already tried adding four 0's at the beginning and end of the string, but neither worked. And what about number strings that have MORE than 12 digits?

I've come across this often and use "Does Not Apply" or whatever the wording is. If there is a work around, I don't know what it is.
Actually, as long as "Does Not Apply" is there, I use it for everything. I do not trust ebay's so called catalog or product pages. I also don't think it means doodly right now if you do/don't supply a UPC.

I don't know if it helps but when I scan it with my bar code scanner app the number comes up different as: 96008461 and is identified as an EAN- 8 number. (european article number) Most likely just a number that company uses within their own system.
