I had a buyer make a counteroffer yesterday after I sent out offers to likers. I accepted the offer. Afterward I didn't see any sale pending...it's like it just disappears. Then about a 1/2 hour later...someone else came in and offered an amount that was 1 dollar less and I accepted that. They paid right away so I messaged them thanking them and telling them I would ship these on Monday. Then they asked me if I could ship to their sister's address because it was a gift. I told them I could not do that and we would need to cancel the transaction and they would have to repurchase with the address they want me to ship to in the Ebay account. I told them I can only ship to the address in Ebay because then I have no seller protection if something happens.
They messaged me back and stated as long as there is tracking there should be no issues. I replied back stating there would be tracking but if for any reason they do not arrive, I will be liable. I told them I will have to cancel the transaction if I can't ship to the address in Ebay.
Meanwhile, the other buyer who I had accepted the first offer from messaged me early this morning asking me what happened. I told them I think the way Ebay is working it now is if someone makes an offer and doesn't pay right away, then someone else can come in and purchase the item outright or make another offer. Is this correct? I told them I was sorry but I did not see any sale in My Ebay so I accepted the other offer. They asked me if I could cancel the other transaction because they really want these shoes. Of course they don't know the situation with the other buyer but my question is...I see there is a place where I can cancel and the reason is there is an issue with the buyer's shipping address. I have not heard back from the buyer and I would like to sell them to the first buyer. I would never cancel an order that was already paid for but in this case...they are asking me to ship it somewhere else. Is this ok to do? I told the first buyer I would contact Ebay and find out how to proceed. What should I do?

Here's one layer of your very large onion @daystarfashions peeled back.

I thought so! Thank you very much. Now I need to know what to do about canceling the order or not?

Cancel the sale using the "problem with buyer's address", you will not be penalized for canceling the transaction for this reason. You were right to refuse to ship it to any address other than the one the buyer had on file with eBay, that is something that should never be done. The only risk is the buyer might leave you negative feedback for canceling, that feedback should be obviously removable but some are claiming eBay won't remove feedback anymore. Just be aware and keep an eye on your feedback.

There's nothing to cancel. If two buyers received the offer, the first one to pay gets it. Until it's paid for, the listing stays live and someone else can swoop in and buy it.
