The title says it all. What do you guys reply when you just get a negative that says something vague like “Bad”. And you check and find out you’ve never had any communication with that buyer before?

Before replying to the neg I would contact the buyer to find out what the issue is.

The buyer is an idiot and they only had one feedback. Some people you can't reason with. Anyone reading it in your sea of positives won't pay any attention just because it was a vague comment.

The first thing I always do with bad/unwanted feedback is contact the buyer. If the feedback was neutral, you may get somewhere with a quick message.
If they seem reasonable and you're able to make them happy by dealing with their issue, you can always ask them to modify the feedback.
I've had good luck with this. There was just one time a buyer wanted to lecture me and punish me with bad feedback. The other handful of times, buyers were willing to make changes.
The last thing I do is respond to the feedback. A generic response is always best. Things like "Sorry you're unhappy. I offer free returns and refunds" or "you can always return for a full refund if unhappy"..

What’s a good reply to an unexpected, vague negative feedback?
My opinion is that there is no good reply to a negative feedback. All it does it make the negative stand out and the seller look defensive.

Oh good, a guessing game ... here's mine on the #38: David Ragan, NASCAR - No. 38 - Front Row Motorsports Ford

Anyone who knows to check feedback knows enough to recognize that you ran into a numbskull. They'll ignore it. The only response I'd leave is something like " ?????" if I left any at all.

#38? I have no idea what you’re talking about. Where are you seeing this?

For $200, what did David Ragan used to drive
a.) the Brown UPS #6.
Anyway, NEVER NEVER NEVER leave a response. It just makes that big red neg stick out more, makes it larger in the rows of feedbacks. In a sea of green, let it melt down towards the bottom before it flips the page. Hardly anyone reads descriptions, and even more of those 'hardly anyones' even click on your 'number' to see your feedback.
I personally just "glance at the number" when buying (no click)- if they have a 20, I'm out as what I purchase, sellers will have 20,000 or more.. so I just stick with them anyway.

Well why do your expectations, think they should then??? LOL
Of course you never said that they had to contact you.
So my error.. I read between the lines incorrectly...
