The title says it all. What do you guys reply when you just get a negative that says something vague like “Bad”. And you check and find out you’ve never had any communication with that buyer before?

I see it on your reply to the Neg FB and I've seen this on others too..#38 ....( and I'm sure it's not a goaltender Jersey number???)

I had that before but i think it was a NEUTRAL.

I had a similar experience a few years ago on a special microphone/speaker I sold. My listing described what limited testing I did, so it was being sold as-is with a 30-day return policy. With no prior messages from the buyer, I get a neg FB that just said, "Over modulation." I sent several messages asking him for details (what radio did he test this on, etc.) No response. Finally I responded to the FB with: "Buyer doesn't talk and leaves neg FB on a $6 AS-IS item with 30-day return." Also left this same FB for him and reported him to eBay. The neg FB magically disappeared after a few weeks.

Really? Maybe you just haven't seen it done properly.
I've seen some nasty, manic negative feedback along with some good responses reminding future buyers that the seller - despite a buyer's angry rantings - is a reasonable person who is not out to screw anybody.
Once I had a buyer claim in feedback that I never shipped the item "so he got his money back". The fact was that a weather issue delayed shipping, and he requested a refund (which I provided) rather than wait for the weather issue to pass.
Without feedback response, it would have sounded like he got screwed, when in fact I did what he asked.

I respectfuly disagree with those who says it "looks" better if you don't reply.
I think it looks better with (the right) reply.
NEGATIVE: Bad
VS
NEGATIVE: Bad

IMHO the reply to your last negative is perfect.

The fact they used a special "e" implies they couldn't leave the word Negative as feedback. Is negative a blocked word for feedback? If so I wonder if it is removable because they circumvented site filters?

I tell the truth. If someone is trying to extort money from you and you had severel emails with that person I would write “ Tries to work with customer. Tried to extort money” l tell the truth and am not kissing a buyers ass for not working with me. You will unfortunately get a knucklehead no matter how nice you are.

I've only had one negative.
I sat and looked at it until it rolled off.
My scarlet letter of shame.

What makes you think they have to contact you before leaving a neg???
What makes you think I said they have to contact me?
" And you check and find out you’ve never had any communication with that buyer before?"
Well why do your expectations, think they should then??? LOL
Of course you never said that they had to contact you.
So my error.. I read between the lines incorrectly...
Again, you are over assuming. For the record, I never expect nor think buyers should contact me first before leaving a negative. If you look at previous posts in regards to communication in this board, you’d understand my stance.
If you need me to clarify, me stating that fact in the OP was only at face value. It was to set up the whole scenario... buyer leaves a generic negative and there’s no messages between the two parties (meaning there’s no context to assume what the negative was about). This is for the members who would say to check and read any previous messages before writing the feedback reply.
It’s not that you read between the lines incorrectly, you are looking for things between the lines that aren’t there.

Really??? I don’t. What device are you viewing the feedback on? Perhaps it’s like how some systems translate the ampersand into weird characters... maybe it’s the case here. Could it be the question marks?
Here is my reply “Sorry, but why? Do you have an issue? Please message me so I can help. Thanks.”
Do you see exactly that, or something else?
