When are the duration choices for fixed price listings coming back? Please let Ebay know that you want a choice to choose "good until canceled", not be forced into it. It sounds good... until you figure out that you're going to be charged insertion fees on all your listings over the free 50 per month if you don't have a store. So, if we received additional promotional listings during any given month, when the 30 day, good until canceled, fixed price listings auto renew, we will be charged insertion fees for all the listings that have rolled over that exceed the 50 free or don't happen to hit a promotion at the exact time they roll over! That's a lot of money. Money, I personally can't afford. Stores are also impacted by this.
I have been selling on ebay since 2002. I figured out that fixed price listings work better for me than auctions. I refuse to start an auction with a lower price than I am willing to take for an item. I start an auction with the price I would be happy to accept! Add to that, the 30% more that Ebay requires for buy it now, and you make your item very unappealing! I would rather donate my items before I sell them for less money than they're worth, or worth to me in time and effort and final value fees. Selling with Ebay has to be worth the time to research, list, package, and mail. It takes a lot of time to even get one package out the door, which I am very happy to do, considering I sold it for what I was asking for it. I do not have a store, nor do I sell multiple items in single listings. I sell items that are my only, or only lot of 1 per listing. The good until canceled does not benefit me, and I am positive I am not alone. I don't sell multiples,. The "out of stock" part of the "talk it up part" of this change, does nothing for sellers that are just trying to sell their own previously owned items to help with the family income. We're not big time, we can't afford this change. Please sellers let Ebay know that you're not happy about this. Maybe, just maybe, they'll listen! We had the choice before to choose good until canceled. Please bring back that CHOICE.
A lot of people won't play the auction game, and I don't blame them. Personally, if I want to buy something, I usually want to buy it when I hit the button to purchase it.

The weather is getting warm enough to sell at the Flea Market. Since eBay wants to play games with GTC. I am going to bring some stuff to the Flea Market instead of eBay. It will be nice to talk to the people I sell instead of sitting at a computer.

If eBay fixes this this situation, which they say they will do, does it mater, two or three? I said three in this thread. I may have said two in another. When you are chasing down misinformation, it can be pretty easy to say the wrong thing from thread to thread.
This is simple calendar math. There are 5 more days in most calendar years, than there are 30 day cycles. This means the 30 day cycle progresses 5 days each year.
Here is a calendar tool. Use it to see when a new listing will relist within the same month. http://isdntek.com/listingtools/billingcyles.htm

Replace progresses above with precedes.

Yep, I am out. I am just a little seller who sells every once in a while and Good Til Cancelled means it will just sit there. When you have a fixed price for 7 days it sells quicker then not doing that way. The fees between Ebay & Paypal no longer make it worth my time. And the fact that they still take a shipping percentage fee is beyond ridiculous.

GTC is a money maker for eBay. Many have commented, "you just have to be better at managing your listings". I do just fine managing my listings - would rather not have to do math, or build a spreadsheet, or sort my listings (all the suggestions that others have posted) to catch the 28th or 29th day and go end listings etc etc...Keep in mind your have to find those listings when you want to relist them, so more filtering of lists etc...You get the sense eBay wants you to spend more time on the site - who knows, maybe one day they''ll send a seller update that says they are going to start charging for the amount of time you spend on the site.
Who makes money on eBay? Let's do some math.
1. eBay - top dog winner; they charge to list (amazon doesn't), they charge for final sale, they charge for some other misc ad improvement features (multiple categories, promoted listings etc). Listing on eBay should be free, even if it would mean increasing (slightly please eBay if you are reading this) final fees - this is what amazon does. With unlimited free listing, all the drama and chatter around GTC wouldn't matter and the only positive eBay mentions about the feature (continued and longer item exposure) would in fact be realized by everyone. We'd also spend LESS time on the site, trusting then unsold, ended items would automatically be re-listed. Will eBay listen? Doubtful. You know what they'd recommend we do? Open a store. And you think you'd get something with a store right? Well yeah you get some additional free listings - but remember, when fixed price listing ends, they will be re-listed. Oh and did I mention, stores cost more money.
2. Paypal. They don't do bad either. And when eBay owned them, that was a pretty nice e-commerce monopoly especially when eBay forced everyone to be paid this way. Granted they haven't raised rates in a while (shhhh don't give them any ideas) - given how quickly & seamlessly financial e-transaction occur today, seems that Paypal's standard fee and percentage of sale fee is excessive.
3. The good old US government post office. This is my favorite. Fought the e-commerce revolution tooth and nail. Then a light went off one day and like, "why fight this, let's join this"...And they did, stopped crying about nobody is using stamps anymore and started making smart partner arrangements with Fed Ex and Amazon. Yes, that's why you see (and hear, because they don't maintain their trucks) US Postal trucks in your neighborhoods on Sundays. Anybody remember when they were talking about taking away Saturday delivery and also going to every other day delivery? Not now, they're all in because they are making money. And oh, thanks for the rate hike early this year, I/we look forward to more of those going forward.
4. eBay sellers - hmmm, that's us. Many of us have a day job, enjoy make a little extra money here buying and selling things for which we have passion and enjoyment. Sale Price minus eBay list, final, feature fees minus postal fees (oh don't forget, eBay strongly recommends free shipping, forgetting sometimes that free shipping is really only free for the buyer) minus PayPal fees minus misc supplies fees (boxes, envelopes, tape, printer ink and paper) = NET PROFIT TO SELLER. Anybody got the sinking feeling that we are working on eBay for everyone other that ourselves?
Back to the GTC topic. I'll hang around a little, I've got a really simple strategy for dealing with the auto re-list eBay money maker. May eventually even consider a basic store ($5 a month for eBay). I wish all sellers luck, trying to do the right thing on eBay is hard, seems like SOMETHING always can get in the way of doing that.

Unless I'm able to control my format, my duration, my price, there is no point for me to sell it on EBay. In fragile, collectible items business, it's always a variety of ways you can and should list your items. Rare items will do fine with GTC due to only handful of listings, however for more popular patterns, I already see a drop in views for newly listed GTC items. Above all, I must be able to controls when my items are auto-relisted. If nothing changes, I'll be leaving Ebay after more than a decade of selling. I'll find other ways to serve my customers. EBay, please bring choice of duration back and do not auto-relist unless seller chooses to do so. You can continue to do what you're planning to do with mass produced new item listings and turn it into a regular internet hub like many others, but for smaller sellers, please revert the changes.

Doesn't matter. It's a violation of Provincial and National law, at least in Canada. Would be surprised if not in the states as well.

I must confess that I am confused as to how this will "help me sell my item". I have an eBay store with 250 fixed price that I will definitely be charged for if I do not cancel some of them prior to them being automatically relisted. This is going to force me to become a math whiz just to keep from being charged additional fees. 😞

Hey!! I had an idea about how to fix it and for now it works!! I went into my active listings that they made "good until cancelled" and clicked on only those to edit....then in the bulk edit page I changed it under format and durations fields from GTC to 30 days. 🙂 I hope we will continue to be able to do this.....

The solution is simple - just manually end your listings when they reach 30 days.

Hospital?? Who us?? Lol
And, yes, it can happen, even to you!!
Actually, from what I read, many are trying to squeeze out $$ on here just so they can have a flexible schedule. Many for health issues.
Or to caring for an aging relative. That can be a crisis every single day.
And yes, that's what ebay appears to be doing, taking away that flexibility.
Waiting for the Gotcha! And sellers paying fees.
And for those who say sellers can end at any time.....if we are on day 27 with a listing, and all is going well, then are faced with an emergency (car wreck, death in family, sudden illness) , then all thoughts of that ebay fee are out of our mind. But no automatic ending.....fees that could add up.(fees already add up)
And no, if you are in the hospital facing a serious illness, you Cant end at any time.
One can truly be incapacitated by life events. Unable.

I called today when I saw it when I listed something and I function the same way that you do with small things of my own. They want feedback from sellers as they are getting a lot of calls about it and I told them it's a whole system change for us and we will be losing out on the free listings we get. Thanks for all of your detail with your message. They said they informed us 2 weeks ago by email but I didn't find anything.
