What is the minimum $ level for scams?

Doubtful; most 'real' scams involve something over the $200 mark. Things that can easily be resold/turned.

There are those that will 'say' they didn't get their item (tracking is a Sellers best friend)

There are those that will 'say' an item is broken because they broke it (all you can do is accept the return)

There are the 'very few' that will do one of the two things above for a $10 item, but very very few and far between.

Thanks. $200 seems like the right level. What about $100?

There is no limit. I have had people try to scam for $10 and even less. People who want the item and just do not want to pay. On ebay, NAD and credit card charge backs work just as well for cheap items.

There is no set price but the higher the price the more likely for a scam. Reading these boards, you would think every transaction is a scam. More than half are just sellers automatically assuming scam since they have to allow a return.

People have reported scams here for $10 items.

IMHO there is no minimum $ level for scams, but there is a maximum $ level that each seller is willing to risk.

Spot on. I have had the same, and usually around the Christmas holiday.   Just one of the many ebay pitfalls sellers must deal with.

I've had "scams" on .99 cards.  Get about one every week or two.  Mine are most regularly item not received.  A couple a month are people saying they didn't receive the card even though tracking shows it as delivered.  I won't call it a scam unless it actually shows it as delivered.  Even though I am highly suspicious that many of the ones that don't show delivered and they claim they aren't are also scams.  So I don't think there is a minimum price.

What is the minimum $ level for scams?

Recently had a buyer claim I sent her a counterfeit bar of soap.  Really.  $11.75 with free shipping. The company whose soap I sell prides itself on their hand made and hand wrapped bars using different designs for different soap batch lots. Same scent, different batch lot number, different wrapper design.  She included a photo of the soap bar she has had in her underwear drawer for the past 3 years.  Of course the 3 year old wrapper is not the same as the new batch lot wrapper.  Been waiting over 2 weeks now for her to sent it back using the free return label issued through eBay.  A counterfeit bar of soap, that's a new one to me. Not even a famous designer name on the soap.

Had a buyer demand a refund because the Free Gift I included in her order was "not big enough" for her.  She paid $7.99 for the item with free shipping. Of course she wanted to keep the item and the free gift.

Had another buyer purchase a roll of silver jewelry making wire.  She demanded a full refund because she "put a crink" in the last two inches when bending it and couldn't get it out. She had already used all of the other wire on the roll.

A few years ago an irate husband filed charge backs through Paypal for every online item / order his soon to be ex-wife purchased using his credit card as she had done for years.  Apparently they both used the same credit card when ordering online.  Lots of sellers on numerous venues dealt with that mess and lost money and merchandise.  (Paypal security informed me and others of the details due to the high number of charge backs filed).  I had to pay one charge back fee of $22 and Paypal removed charges for three others. She purchased my items in October, November and early December that year, presumably for holiday gifts.  Don't know if they did get divorced or if it was a scam to obtain lots and lots of free merchandise.

The buyers mentioned above all still have active eBay user id's.

The vast majority of eBay buyers are honest decent people.  It's the small number of people willing to do anything to get free items regardless of item cost that burns my buns.

After many years of selling here, my blocked buyer's folder contains lots of user id's.  Do it to me once, shame on you, do it to me twice, no thank you.

The lap top you have listed as preowned (which means it should work like it's supposed to), but you say the touch pad doesn't work.

You should list it for Parts or Repair, since it doesn't work like it's intended to.

Have a great day.

A scam can happen for any amount of money.   I worked in a store and people shop-lifted $1.00 items like candy.

What is the minimum $ level for scams?

I have found there is no minimum dollar amount for a scammer. I had a buyer make my life a misery over a holy water bottle that was listed for $2.99. It says in caps in the listing that they are empty bottles. It says it in the listing they are empty. It says where to get holy water to fill them. Yet, not only did they open an INAD case against us (which ebay immediately closed), they also harassed us on and OFF ebay. So, scammers gonna scam regardless of the price. I gave them their money back and then blocked them.

Scammers will scam you for a dime man:

It is a way of thinking, and doing with such folks.

A great deal of such is done with lower cost items because it is easy to do so: the seller will just take the loss:

Cheaper and easier to do.
