What is net proceeds and how do you see any of the buyer information if you did local pickup?

Okay, so this is my very first time using ebay to sell. I've always only ever bought stuff before. So the buyer and I have been in conversation he's interested in. I put "local pickup". However, he's within the same state but he's in a different city (I'm in LA, he's in the bay area), so I have to ship. However, even before I could change the shipping to actual shipping, he already bought the item and ebay says "you can't print shipping label due to local pickup" something along the lines of that.

So my question is, how do I even get the buyer's information now, because I can't see anything at all

Second, WHAT THE HELL IS NET PROCEEDS!???? I posted something for $580, and it says after net proceeds, total fees -$81.67? So I'm only getting paid around $500!?????

And second, how does payment even work?? It says "Funds from this sale will be on hold until we can confirm the buyer has picked up the item. Scan the buyer’s QR code when they collect the item to receive funds within the next day. Without the QR code confirmation, the hold will remain in place for 10 days."

What are they talking about QR code? And where this payment even go, I can't even see where I can transfer the payment, etc.

I asked the buyer about shipping, and he said we can do venmo after I take a picture of the shipping costs which wasn't that much, it came out to $18.40 which is a lot lower than I thought considering the item weighs up to 10 pounds, 19 inches-22 inches (width), 8-9 inches length, and 7.5-10 inches height max, so to have more space to be safe its 22 (width) x 9 inches (length) x 10 inches (height), I'm mailing from Los Angeles to around San Francisco area.

Someone please help, I can't even ship until like Thursday because I have a test coming up for my school tomorrow. How long do I get to ship?

@mtgraves7984

1) Is Ebay Seller School Hiring?

2) How much should we get paid for teaching this stuff?

Last time I told someone I was sending them an invoice for $75 + S/H, for my sage advice.

OP needs to be told that the FIRST thing to do is sign up for Managed Payments. That can take some time. OP also needs to be advised that there will be a 30-day hold on his money once he does sign up for MP. The OP also needs to be told that shipping this week (or maybe next week, too) is likely out of the question, because he will not have been paid yet.

@wrong66

He HAS been told to sign up for managed payments several times and was walked through it later on in the thread.

WHAT are you talking about? Not shipping for a period of time because delay in payment? Yes delay in payment, NO DELAY IN SHIPPING.

Sorry, I don't know how you read this thread, being so blind.

The 30 day hold on his payment is going to happen no matter what. His local pick up option was not a cash in hand payment. Whether he ships or proceeded with his original plan his payment was a 30 day hold. You want me to tell OP that the payment will be on hold for 30 days and do what? advise him to cancel transaction and walk away because 30 days is too long to wait? It's part of being new on ebay, I see no benefit or harm in discussing that as it IS NOT PERTINENT TO THE CONVERSATION AT HAND.

Secondly, again, you want OP to wait 30 days to ship until payment reaches their bank? Are you joking?

You can't get paid until you're in Managed Payments. Simple as that. Once you're in MP, there will still be a 30-day hold on your money after the buyer pays. I see you still haven't changed the shipping details in your listing. Hopefully, and at the risk of sounding rude, it's because you're busy signing up for managed payments.

OP already knows he can't get paid until MP. Yes there will be a 30 day hold. That has not changed since his first attempt at sale with local pickup.

OP was given as much information as possible and then some on how to set up correct shipping details and managed payments. OP had no problem asking 100 questions, would have no problem asking 1 more if they got lost.

OP should not wait until the already cleared payment, sitting in MP, reaches the bank account, because frankly that is absurd and now how EBay operates. The cleared payment sitting in MP is safe and secure until the hold is lifted.

Never said that. If he's not yet in MP, then it would not be wise to ship until he is.

Red portion is what I took issue with and was referring to, assuming this is what you are saying you never said. (I took the implication of 30 days from the fact of 30 day hold, and being "paid" to be release of funds from said hold.)

I just realized after reading MP policy, that the OP IS REGISTERED in MP, or he would not have been allowed to list his item to begin with. They processed the original payment from the initial sale. That is clear. The unclear thing was OP was asking about sending the funds to his debit card. I now realize that his Debit Card is likely attached to his (actual) bank account and means he is set up for MP. I just assumed this may have been one of those "Debit Cards" Like those new-age ones that are prepaid and not actual bank accounts.

Either way, I'm starting to think this entire point is moot since EBay website says you can't even list an item or register as a seller without being enrolled in MP.

Are you registered for Managed Payments yet? Did you give eBay your SS#, checking account# and bank routing#?

@louie261991

On the upside, it might sell before you work out the whole 'thing' with your first buyer... that'd be cool. 😀

Please know that shipping is the hardest of all tasks to master here, in my opinion. That's why I stepped out of the conversation... I can't 'explain' shipping in one thread. A shipping question, maybe... but not start to finish.

I helped with what I could about cancelling the first order and the MP aspect. Take what you need and leave the rest. 😐

@louie261991

You had already said what the PO helped you with. $18.40 shipping Priority. I saw the same on my end. If you had just selected USPS Priority Mail shipping, it would have been fine. I can still answer those questions.

You only need to input:

-Dimensions (L, W, H)

-Weight

-Select Service (Priority Mail like you talked about)

-Select who pays for shipping & how (Buyer Pays Calculated, Buyer Pays Flat Fee, Free Shipping)

-Handling Time (How long do you need as  a buffer to for sure be able to drop off at post office.)

yeah but there's like 10 different options under priority mail, then another under parcel, ground, etc. This is so confusing

You came here asking how eBay works, and then told me not to tell you how eBay works.

I certainly agree that one of us has trouble communicating.
