Okay, so this is my very first time using ebay to sell. I've always only ever bought stuff before. So the buyer and I have been in conversation he's interested in. I put "local pickup". However, he's within the same state but he's in a different city (I'm in LA, he's in the bay area), so I have to ship. However, even before I could change the shipping to actual shipping, he already bought the item and ebay says "you can't print shipping label due to local pickup" something along the lines of that.
So my question is, how do I even get the buyer's information now, because I can't see anything at all
Second, WHAT THE HELL IS NET PROCEEDS!???? I posted something for $580, and it says after net proceeds, total fees -$81.67? So I'm only getting paid around $500!?????
And second, how does payment even work?? It says "Funds from this sale will be on hold until we can confirm the buyer has picked up the item. Scan the buyer’s QR code when they collect the item to receive funds within the next day. Without the QR code confirmation, the hold will remain in place for 10 days."
What are they talking about QR code? And where this payment even go, I can't even see where I can transfer the payment, etc.
I asked the buyer about shipping, and he said we can do venmo after I take a picture of the shipping costs which wasn't that much, it came out to $18.40 which is a lot lower than I thought considering the item weighs up to 10 pounds, 19 inches-22 inches (width), 8-9 inches length, and 7.5-10 inches height max, so to have more space to be safe its 22 (width) x 9 inches (length) x 10 inches (height), I'm mailing from Los Angeles to around San Francisco area.
Someone please help, I can't even ship until like Thursday because I have a test coming up for my school tomorrow. How long do I get to ship?

When you ask for help here, and it becomes clearly evident that you do need help, do you think it's a good idea to bad-mouth people who are trying to offer the help you requested?
And "Don't tell me how eBay works" actually implies that you do know and don't need help when it appears that the opposite is true.

someone here suggested to put buyer asked to cancel for reason
Also, when returning the refund, it said $498 rather than the price listed $580 is whats returned to the seller. I dont understand that, why is the buyer not receiving the full refund. They got the notification that the item was cancelled and the refund is being, 3-5 days which they confirmed
And managed payments i cant find anywhere on the dashboard

first thing is communication is key, so being rude is unnecessary. Theres no problem with taking advice about improving communication. That's important as well

Use the drop-down menu to the left of the order to Cancel, citing problem with buyer's address. The refund from that order will wash from the Pending funds in your Payout... all but the $.30 Transaction Fee. (You need to have a payment method on file for that.)
And in answer to your question, "And second, how does payment even work??" ...you'll need to sign up for Managed Payments to receive your funds at all through eBay. (If you don't sign up, they'll eventually be sent to your state's Unclaimed Property Dept.) Also, as a new seller, know that there will be a Hold placed on your Payout. >> Payments on hold | eBay
Good luck to you here.
DO NOT DO THIS. This is a violation of EBay policies. Communicate with your buyer. You already told him initially to allow you to update shipping before he purchased. He didn't do that. Tell him you are cancelling, relisting with shipping, and allowing him to purchase the item.
Once he agrees to this, you are fully in your right to CANCEL BECAUSE "BUYER REQUEST". That will be within EBay's policies.
OFTEN people suggest CANCELLING due to problem with BUYERS ADDRESS, but time and time again, it has been stated that this is AGAINST EBAY POLICIES and if reported, will NOT SERVE YOU WELL..
There's more than one way to skin a cat. Your way works, too.
- After the quick (botched) purchase... you DID have a 'Problem with the buyer's address'... it wasn't the item's location.
- If you've been messaging and are both agreeable, a cancellation as 'Buyer's request' would also work.

Yes, that's why i said buyer request
the differential in price you see for refund occurs because there is a difference of what YOU pay back to the buyer and what EBAY pays back to the buyer. Buyer gets full refund. $498 or whatever it is comes from your (on hold) funds, and remainder comes from EBAY (the fees they took from the sale). You don't have $580 to return to them cuz you didnt make $580, EBAY has to pitch in their portion of the sale.
Let me look into the managed payments and get back to you momentarily

You using a computer/browser, or phone?
I found a place on computer browser I think will work.
"MY EBAY" at top right of screen
"Selling"
"Payments Tab" of Seller Hub
Scroll down to "Payout Preferences".
I'm already linked up to Managed Payments, but I have a "manage" button next to my linked bank account to handle or choose where my payouts are sent. I assume you can enroll in managed payments from there if you aren't already.

Agreed that there is more than one way to skin a cat, Arguable what EBay would say about problem with buyers address in a local pick up situation. Odds are EBay's policies would not agree with you IMO, regardless, one way is safer than the other and is a good CYA way to do it.
I just have seen the ebay team members on here write too much about "cancel because buyer address issue" is not acceptable, so I generally don't trust it when you have such a simple solution that is a good CYA method.

Good point. I don't sell Local Pickup, but it sounded problematic to me.
Also problematic... have you just relisted it with Local Pickup only again? Does that mean your buyer is 'out'?? 🤔

oh ok i see it. looks like my debit card is listed there under payment options. But somewhere on here told me as the seller, I have to link a routing number, etc, to get paid. is that true? I can't just have the money transferred directly to my debit card?
Also, I'm not sure why but when I refunded the money back to the buyer after communicating with them, it says the refund is around $498, and not the full $580. I dont understand that, so the buyer is only getting the refund back minus the fees? thats kind of unfair since all im doing is cancelling so why is it that they are going to get not the full refund back but $80 taken away from them?

I'm using desktop but i have the phone app too
08-23-2022 02:39 PM
oh ok i see makes sense

no the buyer said hes willing to buy it, once he receives his refund back in 3-5 days which is how long ebay said it would take
Also, it looks like my listing isn't relisted yet, it takes some time, but it said it would notify me through email

Your buyer will be made completely whole. After it washes, you'll only be out $.30. 😁

It's up. Your listing number is 374225574515, but it says nothing about shipping... only Local Pickup.
Note: you can tick on the hot 'View listings' beside your name to view it, too.

Your listing needs to "Index" to become searchable. You can find your listing in your "active listings" tab, go to the listing, copy the URL and send it to the buyer. It by-passes the 'searchable' or "non-searchable" issue. I do it all the time for "custom" listings.
His refund is on the way, he should be notified he is being refunded, if he is worried, sure he can wait 3-5 days, but he shouldnt worry.
I dont believe a debit card works for payouts. I believe you need the bank account added. Be warned, some credit unions won't work. I've heard that anecdotally before.
