What in the world? Email from "Ebay Collections"

This is a first.  On one of my four selling accounts, I just got an email titled "KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT IN GOOD STANDING - PAYMENT NEEDED".

First line:

Please pay your eBay Seller fees

My fees were, and have always been, paid in full through paypal every month.  The account in question had its fees paid on 8/15/18, right on schedule.

And before you ask, no, I don't think it's a spoof.  The email came from collections_us@ebay.com

Yet another "improvement" apparently designed to confound the heck out of us?

Perhaps sending a news tip to CNN and let them know what is going on.  Bet the issue is resolved quickly, when it makes national news.

I got one too, it looked threatening, made me think that ebay is getting desperate for money to resort to threats. Someone said ebay is hacked but I haven't seen any official reports of that. If they were hacked, they have ALL personal information.

I believe this is just ebay being ebay.

I tried calling but realized they were probably dealing with a deluge of calls from other email recipients... as I was stuck waiting on hold much longer than ever before.. and the hold music stopped...… I thought maybe they had so many callers in the queue that the system had broke!

That would be GREAT.... but eBay doesn't really care about sellers. If they DID they would have sent out a mass apology note. They won't. It is only on their recording if you CALL the number.  Ridiculous. And I suspect, like others, that some people actuall paid them again!!

Just make sure when ebay becomes the MOR you have overdraft protection on your bank account or you'll be sorry...

Way to make us feel like criminals, Ebay! I've been on here for over 20 years now and have never received a notice for not paying my bill.

Why isn't eBay clarifying the status of the numerous "KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT IN GOOD STANDING - PAYMENT NEEDED" emails received by many eBay Sellers, who's eBay Account Information verified that payment was received and recorded by eBay many days before the email was sent? ... If not an eBay error, how did the senders of the email obtain 1) the Seller's ID, 2) the Seller's name, and 3) the exact amount of the last payment due (and paid)?

I received the same message.  I know it is a scam.  What worries me is that they quoted the exact amount I paid.  I think someone has hacked into eBay.

Ebay is getting so incompetent and unreliable with all of these ungodly changes and  glitches that they are going to end up crashing like a lead zeppelin. Still no official notice from ebay - some post by some "Destin" guy on facebook is NOT official in any way. Post important messages on EBAY, NOT fakebook! To make matters even worse ebay has been panicking lately because of slow growth (I wonder why??) and has canned hundreds of employees in Cali recently and are out-sourcing customer service to the Philipines where the CS people can barely speak or understand English. It's pathetic. Heads need to roll starting at the top (with NO golden parachutes). This major glitch or security breach will certainly be the final straw for many sellers here.

but to be clear........not all the ones notified are restricted........

Yet.  That is the worrisome part.  I don't think this was an *email* glitch.

I *think* something is wrong in their back end processing of fee payments.  The payments aren't being recognized, and the emails are genuine collection attempts by eBay.  Some seller accounts have already been suspended because of supposed non-payment.

Any guesses on how many sellers will be suspended once the payment deadline hits??   If eBay can't figure out the problem on the back end, my guess would be most of us will be suspended.

What is the deadline for paying the fees?

I just talked to eBay and it was not spam, but a glitch in their system.  I thought everyone should know about this.  Please delete the email and do nothing about it.
