They are if they're actually using a free listing promo to list "placeholders" but as dk said, I'm also not convinced these megasellers eBay WANTS here actually pay any upfront fees to list anyway.
I would imagine these megasellers have contracts, and don't pay regular store fees or listing fees. Megasellers are, after all, speshul and not subject to the regular rules, written and unwritten, that the rest of us lowly serfs are.

Yes.. lowly serfs have no idea of the special deals that the megas can cut with eBay. It obviously isn't written out in eBay *policies* where the serfs can read of it. Many believe the megas push the limits on their speshulness here though.

I have no idea if that's true but I do know that they've been reported many times and it's been brought up in the weekly chat and they still get away with everything from place holder listings to having thousands of listings with no photos! One even has thousands of listings in the wrong category and eBay chooses to look the other way so.....they must have special privileges

Would you please post a link to that policy so that I and others that may not know can read it. Thanks again!
I'm sure you're perfectly capable of finding the policy on using placeholders all by yourself, but thanks for playing.

I did try before I asked you. I was not successful. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it just means I was unable to locate it. Your assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you so much.

ah, I knew there was something about it, but couldn't find it either.........thanks.... to me that's not entirely clear as the listing is filled in and does have a price...... but certainly, to me, meant to be a placeholder.

and different prices ranging from 10K down to $500 and lower (got bored after 45+ pages)?
What's even sillier is they could simply use the "out of stock" seller function which would hold their place without them having to spam up the results, unfortunately some old dogs they don't learn new tricks.

I don't think it is that simple. I don't use the OOS function myself. I understand it, I just don't like it. For me, I choose to close my OOS listings then I will Relist or Sell Similar them when I get more stock in, whichever is the best option for that particular listing.
Some seller prefer to just skyrocket their price so that they leave the listing active.
It is just all in what the seller prefers, not necessarily and "old dog learning new tricks." The seller may just not like the OOS option Ebay has.
