Is there a list somewhere that shows what eBay considers as profanity regarding feedback removal? Or if they bleep out a word here in the forums, does ebay consider it profanity?

There are words bleeped here that shouldn't be but I am always more surprised by words that make it past the board censors and shouldn't.

Interesting. I understand now when I see listings for things with actual profanity printed on them, that the title doesn't state that actual word but rather uses asterics. I.e. a profanic novelty mug. I wonder if this title filter exists when you list in Adult Only category.
Yeah! And sorry I guess that was a bit off topic, but as soon as I read Tulip's rabbit fb comment, my rabbit mug posting popped into my head. Yeah, I believe I got the error message when I tried to post it... Can't use profanity in the title or something of the sort and I had to revise to post.

No it's fine. I just didn't think of that possibility. Sort of opened my eyes. Which makes me wonder about the title filter in Adult Only category.

Reminds me of an amusing moment a couple weeks back when I was playing Star Trek Online. I was going through various words we were not permitted to use when I was a kid, and was wondering if for some of these, we were the only ones or not.
So I turned on the profanity filter, then beamed to my ship's bridge so I could have a private instance with no one to over hear, and tried a few. It was very amusing to learn that butt got bleeped out. That was one of the most memorable "bad words" we were forbidden from using as kids, but only in the booty context.
So if that made it to the filters, it was at least some relief knowing that our family was not the only one. (reaffirmed that at least, since The Simpsons did it as well in the Bart's Girlfriend episode.)
I can't remember if darn, dang, golly, or gosh were in the filter or not. Will have to check again when I have one of my Space Elves go run a mission or two tonight.

So they will block innocent phrases such as "the pen is great", or "I wish it was..." or the word "who" followed by any word beginning with "re-". A few weeks ago we were stumped by a member who couldn't write that something was a 'bargain basement price" until his wife pointed out that the word basement includes a homonym for seaman.
Still grumbles me that when I have cause to talk about fishing, the type we usually catch has to be spelled here with a k instead of a c. Then again, I prefer spelling it with a k anyway, since I just can't get myself to write it out the proper way. 😄

It's interesting to know that a word that's bleeped out in that game is used as a joke in a Disney Pixar movie... "He touched the butt."
Another interesting thing is that at request of the parents, I've learned to not use the word "stupid" in front of my neice as they want her to consider it taboo. I also plan to do that with my child... they say "silly" instead.

I am a "thrill-seeker" with a nativity scene for a signature ... I can contribute nothing here.

If you go by societal norms, you will always have moving targets, as what is commonly accepted changes. The simple meaning of profanity is to make profane what is holy. One of the Judeo-Christian Ten Commandments is to not profane the name of God. By my observation, that understanding of profanity is lost on an uninformed generation. How many times a day you you hear, "OMG" uttered with no regard for holiness? Shame on us for allowing that to happen unchallenged.
Most, if not all, of what ebay would filter as profanity is not profane, but "vulgar". Vulgar, by its etymology, means common. It is becoming more and more common for otherwise-educated people to refer to body parts, bodily functions, by their once-"vulgar" names. Words are symbols. What do yours symbolize about you? Are you "woke" regarding the distinction between vulgarity and profanity? Which one offends you more?
Now I've quit meddlin' and gone to preachin'. No offense intended.

As partial said, "eBay's list is way longer than George Carlin's or June Cleaver's. Or Lithium's. Mostly because the bots that look for naughty words in feedback have been instructed to ignore spaces and punctuation." That's why you can say "I wish it..." here on the boards, but not in feedback: This post is screened by Lithium but feedback is screened by eBay which has different criteria. You can easily test this next time you're leaving feedback.
