What are they up to now?

I'm lost. Ebay messed up my account. Now they want access to my bank account? No way! I'm the seller, not the buyer.  They are going out on a limb and they won't be in business my longer. They make too many changes. They changed the platform from a simple, easy way, to check your past sales and ones performance to some kind of screen with all these different options that are just crazy. Whoever is doing all these changes are ruining a great selling platform. Paypal used to be a part of ebay. Then they broke off and made paypal a separate pay vehicle. Now! I don't have clue what they are doing. I'm looking to take my business else where. One used to be able to talk state side with customer support worker. Then they sent that center to the Philippines. And when you where able to talk to someone there,  they give you a standard answer. " Not to worry, we'll help you." And when you get technical with them, most of the time, they had no clue as to the answer to the problem. Now! You can't even talk to them. Ebay is spending dollars to save a dime. They forget, it's the small sellers like me, that bring in the most revenue for them. If I can't get this straightened out I'm done. I just listed an item on Facebook market place. Offer up is out there and so is Craigslist. They, ebay, are forcing loyal customers out of there business. One can't eat air, as they will see.

actually, I don't believe that's true......the last figure I remember not so long ago was that small sellers bring in 20% of sales dollars......

Re: What are they up to now?

Now they want access to my bank account? No way!

Then your decision to leave will be made for you.

They are going out on a limb and they won't be in business my longer.

eBay's demise has been predicted on this message board every week for the past two decades. Don;t hold your breath.

They changed the platform from a simple, easy way, to check your past sales

There is an easy wany to check your past sales. If you want to see all your past orders, simply visit the "All Orders" page in the seller hub:

https://www.ebay.com/sh/ord?filter=status:ALL_ORDERS

If you want to see your Paid and Shipped orders, simply visit the Paid & Shipped page in the seller hub:

https://www.ebay.com/sh/ord/?filter=status:PAID_SHIPPED

Paypal used to be a part of ebay. Then they broke off and made paypal a separate pay vehicle. Now! I don't have clue what they are doing.

This page explains exactly what they are doing, and what you need to know about it:

https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/service-and-payments/managed-payments-on-ebay.html

They forget, it's the small sellers like me, that bring in the most revenue for them. If I can't get this straightened out I'm done.

You forget that it is all the small sellers like you that bring in the revenue for them. And there are millions of them. When one of those millions of small sellers (or in some cases, tiny sellers) leaves, eBay will be just fine. Buyes will simply buy a similar item from a similar seller at a similar price.

Re: What are they up to now?

Relax... Don't get your knickers in a twist... There's no need to take your business elsewhere, to a place where the grass is most likely not any greener, you will undoubtedly discover. Many who have thrown a tantrum and left, have kept their Ebay options open, and some have actually quietly returned.

Ebay has been telling sellers for a few years now that PayPal for seller deposits is totally going away, and that deadline is fast approaching... If you want to continue selling on Ebay, you need to get enrolled in Managed Payments (MP).  No choice. Yes, Ebay has made it a "take it or leave it" proposition. The smart and calm sellers take it, quickly adjust, and continue making a profit here.

If you want, you can open up a separate bank account, possibly even a free one, just for MP... Ebay doesn't want to steal any money from you. They simply want to have a repository to send you your profits and even things out if there is a shortfall like a refund. How long do you think Ebay would be in business if they performed a criminal act against you?

I joined MP in about 30 minutes last year, and for the last ~700 transactions has been going perfectly without losing one penny. I don't have the added PayPal bureaucracy to contend with, either.

Small sellers bring in only about 20% of Ebay's revenue.

I've been selling here for over 23 years and have seen lots of changes. When change come down the line, the vast majority of successful sellers here practice this:

Accept > Adjust > Adapt.

Practically any business model, even for small sellers, can handle that.

Granted, there are some growing pains to contend with as changes come down, and Ebay's Customer No-Service is in an identity crisis right now. We really long for an understandable, articulate rep on the other end of the phone, who knows with one voice the answer to a question or problem, and then have the capability and actual authority to fix it. But that should eventually be smoothed out - hopefully soon.

Additionally, Ebay has got to tackle the incredible rise in buyer scams that all too often end up with the buyer being able to keep the item AND get a forced refund. There needs to be much better Seller Protection with real teeth in it to eradicate this epidemic of buyer fraud. But this change will probably take time to be instituted efficiently. Until then, take measures to protect your sales from scammers, like not shipping a high-value item you cannot afford to lose, but using Ebay's Local Pickup or Craigslist instead.

Hang in there, take a stress pill and a deep breath. With worldwide saturation of the marketplace and many millions of successful, happy sellers who have adapted, Ebay will easily survive, and you can too.

Cheers, Duffy

I agree and I don't like giving them access to my SSN.

I'll be glad when the roll-out is finally done.  😖

Re: What are they up to now?

Without giving them the information you can still buy, just no selling. You can still transfer money from your savings/checking into Pay-Pal (gee doesn't PP have access to your checking and credit card now along with your SS#?) to buy with or use one of the other payment sources shown on the listing page. To access PP, you will have to save it to your Bookmark page and can still use the same login password. Just no selling. But I am sure they will keep asking! Beside until you pass the $600 threshold, next year, you are only giving them the last 4 digits of your SS # for now. Don't any of these people that are worried have auto-pay for any of their bills? Like phone, cable etc?

Amen!  But, then, I'm sure something else will cause anger, outrage, grievous indignity, shock, resentment, offense.  A swath of humanity is only happy when it is unhappy, paradoxically, and being vexed and galled is as ambrosia to them.

Re: What are they up to now?

Most of the other major on-line marketplaces have had a managed payments system since their inception, and now eBay is catching up.

Buyers like it because it gives them more payment options and because it makes them feel their financial transactions are more secure.   Most sellers like it because it is "one-step" and generally easier and smoother for them.

Of course, some people don't like MPs, for their own reasons.  This is something you need to look into carefully, to decide if it's in your best interests to leave or to stay.

Re: What are they up to now?

Not a big deal, many sellers, such as myself have been on MP for over a year.  It works fine.  It's not run by Ebay TG, it's run by Ayden, a huge payment processor.   Have had virtually no problems at all.
