What weird responses and suggestions do you get from people when they find out you sell on ebay?
There was this one postal carrier I see sometimes at the docks who found out I sold clothing on ebay. He made it his mission to tell me something I absolutely need to sell. It was a really long winded story about him and his wife on a vegas trip that didn't get to the point until the very end. He passionately told me the shirt he saw was a random t shirt a guy at the blackjack tables was wearing. I mention here what the shirt logo said because it was profanity. I just kept nodding and said "okay thanks" trying to get the heck outta there asap. He still asks me about it from time to time... thinking he just threw me a million dollar idea.
Then there's the ones who need to tell/show me something they just bought online and tell me I should get it for pennies from "the supplier" and make a ton of money. No matter what the item is they bought... it seems to always cost only pennies from the unknown "supplier".

Your post made me chuckle as I don't tell people I sell on Ebay. However yesterday at the post office a lady was commenting on how pretty my polybags were and asked if I have my own business. I told her I sale on Ebay. It was crickets, not a word was said after that. Very awkward but I kept on going and wished her a great day. Sometimes it what people don't say or do that make it a weird response.

Two of my neighbors know I sell online and they are always bringing me stuff.
I'll come home sometimes and there will be a box of stuff sitting on the back porch.
Thanks to them, I don't have to spend time looking for new items to sell.

I get responses that generally fall into one of 3 groups.
I don't think sellers of preowned items sell all junk - even my GF sells preowned clothing and stuff - and I buy preowned. I meant to say that the attitude others impress upon me is that they think I'm selling nothing but junk when they hear the word eBay.

They bring me all kind of CARP to sell.
"Sell this for $20. I'll split it with you. You keep $10 and I'll keep $10"
Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

There are actually people out there that think listing and selling something for $20 means they get $20 in their pocket - even after years of selling here! I don't get it.

I usually don't tell people I sell on eBay either, but not for the reason you think. My dad told some people and then they asked me to sell stuff for them. They would even give me a cut! No thanks! I sell books for my Dad and take a small percentage. I don't make much but I enjoy listing books. The people that know I sell here give me things with no strings attached. If they don'tt sell here I take them to the flea market. Problems arise when people know you sell at the flea market too...would you sell this for me?

*The ladies at Pak-Mail always giggle and get red-faced when I drop off - I always use purple/pink mailers and I'm pretty sure they think I sell adult items
*My neighbors glare at my overflowing USPS bins as though I'm involved in a drug trafficking ring
*At least 10% of the people I tell want me to sell something for them, or they ask me to tell them how much I think the arrowhead they found this one time might be worth
*Everybody else just kind of tilts their head to the side and says "Oh, ok. . .", usually in a pitiful tone, as though I just told them I'm about to get evicted or something. It's very strange.

Yep, I get that response with what I posted above about people thinking I sell junk.

You can sell on ebay but you can't sale on ebay unless you are running a sale or sailing a ship.

The latter would be to sail on eBay.

I don't tell anyone anything any more.
Especially at family gatherings, Holiday gatherings, reunions, birthday parties, graduations, weddings.......
"Your home will be filled with roaches from all the cardboard boxes", says Aunt Ida. (Never mind that we have a warehouse area that stores all the boxes and 99.9% of the inventory and you tell her repeatedly the items are not stored in your home).
"So.....where do you find this "junk" you sell online? Do you get much for it?"
"I would never be an e-Bay/Amazon/Online Seller. Can you not get a "real" job?"
"Did you lose your "day" job? I had no idea you weren't working!"
And my personal favorite from 2 Christmases ago from a different "Aunt Ida" - "Does your DH have a gambling problem? Does he drink? Is that where the money goes? Do you really need to be working 2 jobs? Maybe just manage your money better, hun??" 🙄

Then there are people who go garage sailing....

Yes it's bad enough the general public thinks that
but when SELLERS think that, that's pretty sad. 😉

They don't consider the fees and the tax liability involved, You make next to nothing at a 50/50 deal.
