Re: Weekly chat?

Thank you for checking again, Alan.  First reviews weren't 'over-the-top', so I think I'll pass on it.  3 machines wouldn't do it XP/Firefox, WIN7/Firefox and Win10/Chrome.  Getting too old to have to bother troubleshooting.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

Interesting.  I was over there on the link Alan put up and got nothing.  Guess I didn't have things set right.  Oh well, wouldn't be the first time - though would have been the first time for an ebay video.  Thank you.

The video would not play for me using Firefox, which is my preferred browser. But it worked just fine when I switched over and used Google.

So you may have experienced the same issue that I experienced.

Hmmm... I caught the tail end of the live stream, and then watched it from the beginning a short while later once the video link appeared. My setup was Windows 10 using Chrome.

I agree that there wasn't a whole lot of "there" there. Bob's a smooth talker, but did a lot of rambling discussion, and had no one to really rein him in or keep him focused. When he tosses out an acronym without explaining what it stands for, someone really needs to jump in and ask him to define it the first time. I notice that Audrey does a lot of mugging to the camera, but not a lot to keep things on track and moving along.

I suspect that Bob could probably be a lot more helpful and forthcoming if he's got someone to bounce off of in conversation, or to interject logical or even obvious questions that the audience would want to ask as a followup, based on something that he'd just said at that moment. (Several times I found myself thinking, "Wait, what did he just say?") Otherwise you just have this stream-of-consciousness rambling that sucks all the oxygen from the room.

At 3:19 or so I clicked on "books" reminder to them to start the chat. I clicked on that link.

A video comes up with instructions to click on the audio which was turned off. I sat there from 3:31 until the end. At they beginning they announced in a flubbed sentence only 7 questions. How can that be when I know there were a ton of pre-questions sent in over the past weeks.

In regards to account questions? They said someone else will answer them at eBay Open? Or call in? Plus, Bob kept telling people to put any other questions to the Community, not so much to their other places like Face Book & I think he said Seller Center. Except later on Audry said to use all of those places to pose further questions.

Nothing was really answered. Total waist of my sight and ear time. Then they signed out at I think it was 4pm. Total waste.

Only thing I got from it was yes, we are stuck with the hidden completed/sold listings. And they kept saying it is one click to get to the completed one but I'm having to do more than one click ... I click on the word listing and it takes to the mini version of the listing where I again have to click to go to the complete listing. Too much bother ... I'm done helping buyers and sellers with problems with these listings.

I think the problem there is ebay confused and continues to confuse the issue by leaving the link that says: "see original listing" when the link is now false.*  It seems more of a marketing ploy. Ebay deliberately redirects the user to another page in hopes that you will buy more. Why else would they leave the "see original listing" wording other than to "trick"  encourage you to see similar listings with a disorientating another link?

Once the user finds the new link and protocol for finding the original listing, then fine.

* I get random results

They said the Holiday Wed chat next week will be this Monday? Not the 11th?. Topic something about International. Most of the video was kind of mumbled.

Re: Weekly chat?

a_c_green,

I watched that streaming video live.

I quite agree with your assessment. Bob Kupbens rambles a lot and Audrey mugging for the camera doesn’t add much to the discussion.

Where I had difficulty following Bob is his frequent use of acronyms. If I am not familiar with the acronym, then Bob just “lost me” since I can’t fully appreciate what he was trying to explain.

When I have attended shareholder meetings, the most important thing that company executives do in their presentations is to speak so that the audience can follow what is being said. They do not use unfamiliar acronyms that are company specific. If they use a specific metric to measure performance, for example, they explain the metric; they do not use an (internally used) acronym.

It is one thing that Bob Kupbens may be able to speak effectively with other eBay personnel or eBay teams responsible for their respective areas of responsibility and they may communicate with acronyms because of their familiarity with them. But, when you are trying to explain things to “outsiders”, then you need to be aware of your audience and they may not be familiar with your terminology or acronyms.

It would help if the speakers are aware of their audience’s level of understanding of eBay terminology if these speakers hope to effectively communicate with them.

Honestly, I think Bob Kupbens could have answered 10-12 questions . . . if he was focused.

I should have remembered that ebay isn't Firefox-friendly when it comes to videos and a couple of other things.  I appreciate the link, but I still (1700 hrs) get the Facebook message.  But, that's okay.  I was just about to miss out my nap 'window of opportunity', so, I flipped a coin; heads - nap, tails - nap, heads it was, so I took a nap and now the video doesn't seem all that important.  If all their videos are produced through FB, than that may be why I don't get, or bother to try to get, them (my settings would probably account for the 'problem').

Firefox won't play the video on the community page but it will play the video on the facebook page. You do not need an account, video is publically available.

Re: Weekly chat?

I suppose it may well be my 'anti-social media' settings that was the problem.  Oh well.

From what I gather from a couple of those that did see the video, I didn't really miss anything other than a quickie pep rally and to show a 'see how concerned we are' appearance.  Perhaps Bob just isn't all that geared to do the 'community' thing.  Maybe, next time, someone will be kind enough to him, and us, to get a teleprompter or a script ready.

Hmmmm, why can't they just get a couple of people know what is going on and are only there for answering questions?  Yes, yes, I know - the business model is such that it is not allowed for anyone to know everything.

I was thinking earlier, "How timely", when Trinton posted about going on vacation, starting at the end of today.
