Warning from eBay

I had a buyer ask me to cal him in his first message sent. I told him that's against the rules and didn't respond after that.

2 weeks later I get a warning from eBay... here's the screenshot.

If another memeber decides to do this will I get another warning or possibly a ban for something I didn't do?

Re: Warning from eBay

In all my years on Ebay (my family has been here buying and selling since it started in 98), I have NEVER called anybody and NOBODY has ever called me.  In fact, that is probably what I LOVE about selling online is that you can just do it all without any contact, on your own schedule and (usually) very little drama.

Re: Warning from eBay

It all smacks of desperation...they'll scare off 10,000 sellers to save some unknown amount of POTENTIAL offline sales, including those from sellers who would not participate even if given the chance.
It's all about the stock price...which is predicated on revenue...which is totally dependent on seller sales.
They keep stabbing themselves in the gut and wonder why they're still bleeding.

I saw that but you put a username and the word 'email'...so I won't lie, I was a little nervous to reply. Btw, not same buyer. 🙂

The bots send the warning messages, and we can all agree they are not very good at it. The warning goes to both parties, so if one does the wrong thing and the other does the right thing (as in your case), they'll still both get the warning.

Additionally, if the item is pulled without selling, the bots will consider that an external sale, so keep that in mind if deciding not to relist an item with a warning.

Now, to answer your own question, if you get several of these and it looks like action may be taken, humans will review the communications before taking real action.  I've gotten several warnings due to eBay's poor filters, but I don't expect anything to come of it because the humans will read the messages and discover nothing of significance.  Additionally, my listings have remained listed, so no flag has been triggered there.

I completely agree with you. I tend to be a very private person and find sometimes physical interaction with people, especially in sales, quite difficult. Just me I guess. But I like that I have confidence when I am conversing with my customers just because of the anonymity.

Unfortunately that hasn't been my experience.

Re: Warning from eBay

I'm sorry but you offered your email which is contact information. It's unfortunate this is happening but the manager was just telling you what you wanted to hear.

I have to take it back, he did reply and asked for specific examples.  I linked this thread.

But that is not what the policy says.

Re: Warning from eBay

The mere fact that he needed examples tells you how out of touch these people are.
"OH...is THAT happening on my site?"

Well I did get a response anyway.

odditiesandantiquities1 Thanks for this, and I especially like this quote "I want to keep doing what I love without any vacations I don't choose to take myself." I'm going to send that to the VP of Product 🙂

Thanks for selling on eBay

You are not the manager nor do you know what he was thinking or saying.
