I just sold a Giant Power Head (vintage high performance head for a Model T) from an ad I put on a Model T forum. I spoke with two people regarding the head before I sold it. They all had questions and felt it was easier to do it over the phone. I agree. But, that would be against Ebay policy. So guess what? It gets listed on a forum instead of sold through Ebay. Ebay was never in a position to make any money in part because of their silly policy.
I wonder if they are going to do any kind of cost benefit analysis on this policy to see if it's actually costing them money.
This is yet another policy that hampers my ability to sell. I admit I don't have any idea how much money Ebay loses via people taking transactions off Ebay. My guess is they either don't know or the don't lose that much, but then I don't sell the usual iphones and purses or anything like that. And I as a seller take my agreement to pay Ebay's fees seriously and I don't take things off Ebay. I even list stuff ON Ebay when a previous customer contacts me about a part they want.
I think they are throwing the baby out with the bath on this one.
