Wanting to charge for a tracking number

Here's a new one.  I recently purchased a set of letters for my mailbox.  After 12 days they haven't shown up and seller didn't provide a tracking number so I could see where they are.  The seller said that he never provides a tracking number unless you spend $40.  He would "gladly" provide a tracking number if I paid him for it.  I informed him that when you sell on eBay and use their shipping services you always get a tracking number.  The seller argued and said eBay never provides a tracking number.  I've sold thousands of items on eBay and never once have I not been shown the whole details of the sale and shipping tracking numbers.  The seller shipped through USPS so there definitely would be tracking info available.   It's sellers like this that give eBay a bad name.  eBay should definitely ban anyone trying to sell tracking numbers.

I'm not sure 'entitlement' has anything to do with the fact the default shipping here is a parcel with tracking, and that shipping something first class letter with stamps is not. This patient buyer waited quite a while before inquiring, only to be sold a lot of horsepucky by this seller who could simply have been honest and said the item was sent letter mail with no tracking due to the nature of the item. I mean, did he even mention it in the listing.

But funny how all my bills always arrived on time without getting lost in the mail for the past 50 years. Never lost one of those letters.

Funny how they never get lost in the mail.

Have a great day.

I don't charge for tracking if it is an item around $40 bucks.

The seller was wrong to say that to you...but it was just a purchase of decal numbers.

I pay for tracking out of my own pocket. I never charge the buyer.

If something is around 5 bucks I don't have tracking.

The items you sell are different then what the seller sold you...Decal numbers for to put on a mailbox for 5 bucks with 'free' shipping.

Seller probably uses a forever stamp...who knows.

And you gave a negative feedback to the buyer that was maybe not so nice so eBay or the seller got your statement removed.

What's to keep the seller or his friends doing the same thing to you as a seller and giving you a negative feedback.

$5 purchase, and you expect $4 worth of tracking.

Likely not going to happen. Not much profit there for the seller if tracked.

If the OP is talking about the listing they left negative feedback for.

Mailbox decals then it was advertised with Ground Advantage shipping.

This comes with free tracking so if the seller is trying to sell that tracking number then that would be improper.

If they sent it by a lesser service then that is also improper.

However if a listing is advertised with a shipping service that includes tracking then the buyer should expect tracking.

But maybe we are talking about a different purchase.

You do know that you can open an item not received case if/when you do not receive your  purchase by the estimated delivery date, right?

Your seller has done nothing wrong.  There's no eBay requirement that he get tracking on every package.

Yes it is mentioned------------------ Shipping: Ships First Class

I see no revisions to the listing, so I suspect that it was there when the purchase was made.

I also saw ground advantage but when I read the description it stated 1st class and that tracking would be provided if the purchase was fourteen dollars. They should revise that.

interesting.

I didnt read their description.

They should remove their shipping service because that is search manipulation and false advertisement.

Yes, I know all that.  I have already alerted eBAy that I haven't received it but have to wait until 10/4.  Wanting to charge for tracking just really made me question this seller.  His/her rating wasn't all that bad so I took a chance.  Won't deal with anyone in the future that doesn't have 100% rating like me.  It's shameful eBay doesn't do anything about people who has lots of negative feedback.  This is the second time in the past 2 mos. that I've bought something from someone and they turned out to be flakes.  The first on took 6 days from time of purchase to ship.  They were only 1 state away from me and should of gotten it much sooner.  I ship same day or at the very lastest next day and I always get a tracking number to them.

It was free shipping.  Either way he/she shipped it, he/she  would of been given a tracking number.  How long would it take to send me the tracking number once I asked, maybe 2 min at the most?  He/she said  a tracking number would be sent  but first I'd have to pay them almost $4.  The seller was quite rude when I first inquired about the tracking number and it just went downhill from there to the point of making comments about my intelligence.

Not if they used stamps.

I seriously doubt the seller even sent it.  He definitely did want to charge me for a tracking number.  The seller specifically said if I paid almost $4 I would get the tracking number.  That tells me, the seller knew what the tracking number was.

I'm sure the seller had the tracking number because the seller said if I paid almost $4 they would provide me with a tracking number.

I'm sorry, but that is just silly.  You are a seller, you must know that $4.00 is referring to using a method with tracking.  They should have made it clear the item was going 1st class, so that's on them.   What possible reason would a seller have for refusing to give out a tracking number if they had one?
