Sold a car radio today for $300 plus about 16$ shipping.
Ebay calculates fee #1 based on total od selling price+shipping+tax.
I netted $237 after all fees. Diff is $63
doing the match (63/300) * 100 = 21% fee
This is nuts.
Time to look for a new selling venue

1. You did not mention if there was a state sales tax and, if so, how much it was.
2. The shipping cost is NOT part of the final value fee.
Keeping that in mind, can you show us your figures again?

Well OK, then. Bye.
Good luck with those 'eBay is so expensive' expectations. Rude awakening coming soon.
Great Moms turn them off first.

Member since 1999? Literally thousands of sales over the years? I'm sorry, but this should not be the first moment you calculate your selling costs.
Fees are calculated on the cost of the item + shipping + applicable sales tax.
Thus your math:
316 total
Fees would be 12.9% + 0.30 or $316 *0.125 = $39.80
Shipping $16
Total: $55.80
You don't mention what the buyer was charged for sales tax, so there could be a reason you have a different figure.
Was it purchased by a foreign buyer? There would be an international currency conversion/processing fee in addition if that was the case.
Not every venue is the right fit for every seller. Best of sales wherever you do land after 20+ years on eBay.

So wait? You're going to include shipping in your fees of $63. But you aren't going to include it in your total by dividing by $300 instead of ~$316?
And good luck. Outside of maybe Facebook for the time being. Most of the other major marketplaces charge about the same as here.

What it "nuts" is people selling on ebay without any clue of what they are going to be charged.

The buyer paid eBay 300 for the item + about 16 for shipping + sales tax don't know the tax rate of your buyer but let's say it is 7% 0n that 300 bucks that ST would be $21 more the buyer paid. The buyer paid at total of $337 now you apply the appropriate eBay final fee based on the category of the item.. Do not count the" about $16 of shipping" cost as a fee the buyer already paid that to you
Read this link - FVF can range from 12.9 to 15% + 30 cents - you may have also chose a an optional and addition cost feature - promoted listing, etc. Only you know that. info.

Depending on what you are selling, FVF vary from 2.5% to 14.6%.
Plus the 30c non-refundable service fee.

So they quit charging final value fees on shipping cost?? Cause i knew a lot of sellers who were charging like 2 dollars for an item and 15 for shipping to get around the final value fee. Yes the costs are high for some. but anyone who has had a brick and mortar location knows, KNOWS, that the costs are very reasonable compared to the effort and cost of having your items available to be seen and more importantly the cost of getting eyeballs, who are looking to spend money, committed eyeballs who trust the venue on your listings.
This is a tremendous value for the money. I am 65 years old and been in business all my life and had a physical antique store for 5 years back in 2015 and again was astonished at the my bottom line.
So complain all you want but go put your items on craigslist and see what kind of return you get on your items.

Yes selling fees on Ebay are high.
You have interesting listings, you will do great on Porsche selling groups on FB Marketplace/other Porsche/CAR specific forums and venues.
Good Luck!

eBay began charging the final value fee on shipping costs in 2008. Not sure what you are seeing that would lead you to believe otherwise.
So anyone who is CURRENTLY charging $2 for an item and $15 shipping is not getting around the final value fee. This hasn't been possible since 2008, as mentioned above.
As currently calculated the FVF is based on the item price, the shipping cost and the state sales tax, if applicable.

Well no other “venue” would be better, all platforms essentially have the same if not higher fees. You assessment of the whole transaction being taken for fees is accurate. Do you think visa or Mastercard don’t take fees from the entire transaction? Maybe start at the top of the chain while assessing fees before making eBay the culprit.

$316 total sale even with 9% sales tax should mean about 30 cents + 12.9% x $344 = about $45 leaving about $271.
If you say you netted $237, unless there is an there is an international fee or a penalty fee, there is a difference of $34 between what you claim and what one might expect.
Can you give is a breakdown of exactly what you are including in the $79 in "fees"?
