Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

My reply:  It use to.

I Facebook, use Twitter, and Pintrest to promote my listings.  In the past, this seemed to generate alot of sales for me, now nothing seems to work.

I am setting more goals to list 20 new things every day.  Do you self-promote your listings and if yes, are you seeing a difference?

Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

IMHO, the answer to this question would depend entirely upon how much of a following one has on social media, and whether one's followers would be interested in the items.

Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working? OP

I often  use social media to promote my stuff  .  I can only recall one time that it proved to work and result in a sale .  The rest  is just a guessing game . I've never had a buyer tell me  they seen my stuff on Facebook .  Tulips

I don't think it helps without a following. There is more to gain through social media than using promoted listings though.

When you facebook or tweet images of your product in the faces of others: you are doing what commercials do, however I sometimes wonder, now, if those interested are being redirected.

There were times when I was getting sales within minutes after twitting or facebooking an old and new listing.

Re: Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

I never had any traction in pinterest other than views. Did a stint paying for ads there and no sales.

I only ever used Facebook to promote my own direct listings. It did result in some sales, but there was a metric **** ton of Facebook messages involved, 99.999% of which went nowhere.

I don't use **bleep**ter and have no interest in doing so and don't really see it as a viable venue for sales.

Right ,, although commercials can be disruptive[ EX .  My pillow guy -   eye roll ]  and annoying  they still put your products out there . As a consumer  I prefer  commercials not to be so  repetitive until  I'm already sick of  whatever  they're selling before  I even think about buying  .  Tulips

Re: Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

I've never used social media to promote, mainly because I rarely use social media. I somehow can't picture my buyers flitting about on social media (I like to think they're more grounded than that) but I could be wrong.

Re: Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

It was said, my another poster: using social media to promote your listing is only good if you have a following, and that is not true.

I too get annoyed with the My Pillow Guy, the rotation is too frequent; however he must me doing something right,: getting sales, since he is continuing to pay for the advertisement.

Today, it's just not good enough to simply list your item, Sellers have to draw there customers to them and hope those customers do not get redirected.

Selling full-time is getting harder and harder, I feel if though I have pulled every trick out of the bag to grow more sales, it is becoming very laborious.   I love finding and listing new things, but this well is getting drier and drier.

Re: Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

We discussed the social media subject a couple of weeks ago, there are few similar posts,

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Last-31-days/m-p/30613846#M1539309

You are at risk of losing potential sales on hard earned traffic from youtube, FB,  twitter etc' which might  be handed to other sellers - they will hand your sale to another seller through ads on your listing, cheaper similar offerings at the bottom of the page etc'

that might explain why now, you feel that nothing seems to work.

Re: Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

I don't use Twitter, but I don't see any ads on Facebook or Pinterest. Or anywhere else, for that matter, unless I've whitelisted a specific site. I use an ad blocker generally, and specific apps that block ads on Facebook and Pinterest. I wouldn't use them if I had to look at advertising.

I haven't had a television for over a decade. I also use an ad blocker for YouTube, and my ad blocker eliminates ads from other sources of streaming video.

I think more and more people are blocking advertising--I've seen figures as high as 47% of consumers are blocking ads.

P.S. Just for the record, my ad blocker also filters out promoted ads on eBay.

Re: Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

Well, I suggested on the Townhall that Ebay get better traffic reports so we could SEE if social media links helped with sales........ and also suggested Sellers be paid a % of FVF if they did...... (lol, so you can go vote for it)

If millions of sellers turn into sales people FOR ebay.......we might get more buyers.........

Re: Using Social Media to Attract Buyers...is it working?

Thank you for attaching the above post.  It summed up almost everything I believed and knew was happening.

My cell phone is a major tool that I use every 30 minutes of the day to promote my listings and I have seen a dramatic drop in its usefulness as I am tweeting and facebook promoting my listings.

I am now awaken enough to know, my sales are out of my control even when I list items that are in high demand.

The constant tweaking the system by trying  this and that: adding more product, lowering prices, being open to offers, and back to back sales should have lead to a huge increase in sales, yet that is not the case.

I am willing to do the work, but I can not work without reward.  I wanted to remain exclusively loyal to Ebay, but when nothing you do works anymore, it's time to consider other options.

I put my heart ❤️ Mind & soul into Instagram.

Love it to 💀 Death.
Constantly on...Probably not a healthy thing!

Especially at my age!  I destroy the age bell curve.

Have real followers that give me joy all over the world.

Do not know if I have what is considered a lot of followers or not.

If someone sees an item they like on Instagram, they just buy it from me there!

I have even made big sales many Many times to exotic far off places...
