Uploaded on time but no carrier scan

My "Tracking uploaded on time and validated" section on my dashboard just lost a couple points. I took a look closer and it appears I had two items recently that were "uploaded on time no carrier scan".  Is it really fair to penalize me ebay for what the PO didn't do?

I had these items at the PO within my handling time why they didn't scan them is beyond me.  The items did arrive to the buyers before the anticipated arrival date.

Do I need to talk to my PO office about this so it doesn't happen again?  They apparently aren't scanning my items.  Has this happened to anyone else?

Happy 2018! May this upcoming year be a prosperous one!

Re: Uploaded on time but no carrier scan

A carrier scan can be any scan.  It doesn't have to be an acceptance scan.  Does the tracking on those packages show any scans, such as a delivery scan?  If so, then hopefully the tracking will catch up and your dashboard will update by the 20th of the month for your next evaluation.

Yes.

My post office does not scan dropped off packages.  They are trucked to the main city PO, where they may or may not be scanned before midnight PT that day.  That is not going to change.  Providing a scan sheet for my packages in a pile of random-packages-at-the-end-of-the-counter does not work.

Talking to your post office may or may not help.

Reading these boards since eBay imposed the Late Shipment Metric 18 months ago shows that each post office seems to have its own ideas about whether/when/how they scan dropped off packages.

@tealt

You are still having these issues??  I thought you got those problems taken care of last year?

Hi David 🙂

My PO has not changed its practices for dropped off packages, so I went with carrier pick-up well over a year ago.

After a months-long struggle (battle?) with my postmaster and carrier supervisor, the sub/new hire/contract carriers on my route seem to have learned to scan my packages as Accepted at my doorstep.   The regular carrier on my route is a grizzled veteran who has always been great.

I provide a scan sheet even when I have only one package to be picked up.

@tealt

I do the exact same thing with the scan sheet, even if its only one package.  I do remember you using the scheduled pickup now that you mention it, had forgotten that was how you resolved your situation.

Mine is so nice now its crazy.  The postmaster and the carrier supervisor sell on Ebay so they completely understand what I am going through when items don't get scanned.  My regular carrier is a gem and I am dreading the day he retires, which probably isnt that far down the road with his knee acting the way it does.  I make sure I take care of him at Christmas and when its really hot always offer him cold water or gatorade just in case.  He has even designed  a system so that the subs know to pick my items up when he is off by using a blue plastic placard that goes into my sorted mail daily with the instructions on what they are to do regardless of whether I have mail or not.  Overall that has worked except when the carrier skipped the outgoing items but delivered the placard with my mail.  My regular carrier and I got a laugh out of it although the Postmaster (no longer there now thank goodness) definitely didn't because somebody had to come pick up my mail due to that placard being delivered as it showed was proof the carrier should have known what to do.

Glad things are going well for you

My very local post office has a fit if my packages don't have the "sent from" zip correct (the office closest to me is a different zip than my location - don't get me started on that post office inefficiency) as they say that they don't get credit in their volume count if the zip is different than the office zip.  Which I think is not correct, but they are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

I'm pretty sure that's not correct, as most of my packages get scanned in a completely different STATE (I live in DC but work in Maryland) and not once have I had any of the PO workers say anything about that.  To my understanding, as long as the first three digits of the zip code are the same, it shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Uploaded on time but no carrier scan

Well..

I have a similar case, too.

I dropped 3 small pkgs at once. But one of them made a problem, increassing my late shipment rate.

I called ebay CS to make correction. He said PO didn't scan my pkg at your local. A kind of ridiculous thing is my pkg's first scan was done at destination PO. And he recomended to take pkgs to PO clerk to verify scanning. I told him most of senders just dropped pkgs to PO. He transferred to supervisor. By the way supervisor told me same thing. I asked him do you think this process (CA 90716 to WA 99352) make sense? Do you think i did fly to small city, WA from southern CA to drop pkg. He answer is terrific. Technically, possible.

Another worst thing is destination is PURTO RICO (00949). They said it is possible.

Ebay have to make a more reliable system to prevent this kind of 'No carrier scan on PO'.

Re: Uploaded on time but no carrier scan

I have shipped the item and uploaded the tracking no. on time.

Many of the shipment is delivered and buyer has left positive feedback also

But at seller dashbord I am not getting the carrier scan even after the item is delivered and 2 week already past. Many of the item is pending carrier scan on ebay but on DHL website the item is showing delivered.

Is there any link where I can report eBay for carrier scan. As I have loose TRS due to ebay mistake. I only use DHL Express to ship the item.

Re: Uploaded on time but no carrier scan

@leather_lifestyle  This thread is old but someone resurfaced it.  Anyway, my problem was resolved -- just so you know sometime there is a delay between delivery and being updated on your dashboard.

Re: Uploaded on time but no carrier scan

That is why it is so UNFAIR of eBay to rate their sellers on the USPS performance over which we have NO CONTROL! I had a customer who wrote me that he received his package but stuck to the back of his package was someone else's package that never got scanned and was delivered to the wrong address. He was nice enough to remail for me when I sent him a new label, but of course, my rating got knocked down because the original package never received a scan.

I was just penalized for the same thing. Very frustrated as it seems I spend more time trying to figure out what just happened versus getting things listed. Now it appears that our percentage rates have gone up so here I sit actually worried about losing my top rated status. I am a small seller and really take this seriously as I'm sure we all do.

How should I handle this other than calling and getting someone that doesn't know what to do?  Way too time consuming, actually to the point that I have considered looking into other venues to sell of which I don't want to. I like my eBay and the convienence of it and finally have a system in place for my inventory and all but I'm getting tired of spending so much one on one time with the eBay people.  Help

Re: Uploaded on time but no carrier scan

"No Carrier Scan" is another of many ways ebay uses to make it harder for sellers to reach that 95% top seller Rating ...... if you are a top seller you get a cheaper Rate when buying postage thru ebay ...... if you are not then ebay gets to keep that extra money for ebay ...... its all about the money with ebay.

Re: Uploaded on time but no carrier scan

I just googled this to see what it meant.  Glad to see I am not the only one.  I always stand in line with my packages.  I am going to be sure and ask them about scanning my items.  This is affecting my Top Rated status 🙂

I used to just drop off my packages in “the box” inside the Post Office and started to notice missed or delayed scans. So now I wait in line and get my receipt. Same clerk is there everyday. He doesn’t even ask - I just hand them over. I told him yesterday, I would just have one the next day. Today he commented “Oh, You have two today! I thought you would just have one!” LOL!

It's not perfect but they really have no other way to tell if it's been shipped.  You can print postage and throw it in the garbage.  For the most part it seems to work, and I've noticed that when there IS eventually tracking, even if it shows up long after the handling period has come and gone, it doesn't show up as a ding.

I drop off at the mailbox store.  I've been going there for years so I know everyone.  They make sure the carrier scans my packages when she picks them up, which is great.

Yes, it has happened to me and eBay's professional advice is to remain in the P.O. Office and harass a federal employee. Seriously. I tried to explain that not all clerks scan packages for each customer, each time they are doing a transaction individually. A lot of them will wait until the line is no more or there is a 'break' in the action, and then proceed to scan and load to cart a bunch of parcels all at once.

eBay is telling people (like me) to "make sure your P.O. does your scans", when the reality is that if you try to tell a postal worker how to do their job, they probably will deliberately NOT do what you would expect them to.

So you know, this whole stupid rule of uploaded on time but no carrier scan only exists to penalize and weed out small sellers. I have told this to customer service many times. There's no other logical reason to have the rule but to cheat small low volume vendors out of their TRS status, those sellers who are at or above the borderline for TRS. Let's face it, if you're a high volume seller doing 7-20 packages a day, a missed scan or two is not even going to be a blip on the radar. But if you're like me, and your numbers are 122/1,212 for the year, just two no scans in a 90 day period brings that kind of seller from 100% to nearly 96%.

***The rule exists to cut our throats for no good reason, blaming us for things we have no control over. To say nothing of the fact the buyer is clueless to what is going on, unaffected and could care less. The buyer got their stuff on time- and as described.
