--Final Update, October 28--
The category changes announced in our Fall Seller Update have been completed.
Now that all category changes are complete, while you might still see some adjustments to searches, it is okay to update or edit your listings without concerns of losing data or having it moved again.
We appreciate your feedback on this roll-out. We'll continue to adjust the process based on the input we’ve received here, and we'll take all of these suggestions into consideration for future updates.
As this project is now complete the post is being locked from further comments.
Resources and observations
We’ve heard from you that updating your Item Specifics in time for the February 2022 requirement date may be a challenge.
A useful tool that may help is located in the Seller Hub under Listing>Active. There is a drop-down box labeled ‘Download’ which will generate an Excel document for ‘Missing Required or Recommended Item Specifics’. You can read more about this tool here.
Should you come across any inaccuracies within the new Item Specifics we ask that you report those directly to sdsupport@ebay.com so our team can investigate. Outside of that, please share suggestions as to changes you'd like to see going forward here, selecting the Categories and Item Specifics option.
---Update as of October 19th---
We apologize for this delayed update. Thank you for your patience while our teams worked to finalize category changes.
All listings have been moved to their final destination categories. You may now proceed with checking your categories, revising items, and updating item specifics where needed.
Some item specifics have been renamed, and the value you originally provided has been copied over to the new item specific, so you don’t need to re-add these item specifics. We encourage you to update your listings with item specifics that are showing as “Required Soon.” These will become required on February 22, 2022.
All other item specifics are either Recommended or Optional. Learn more about item specifics.
Some categories were retired and replaced by product-based categories. You and your buyers can still find the items you’re looking for. Simply browse to the product category of your choice and use the filters to refine your search.

---Update as of October 14th---
The work continues on this move and is progressing according to plan. We are on track and anticipate all category changes for your listings to be complete by end of day tomorrow (10.15). Thank you for your patience while our teams implement these changes.
---Update as of October 13th---
We continue to work through this change and thank you for your patience as our teams work through it. We wanted to provide answers to some top concerns and questions:
Why are Gallery Plus fees being charged for items that were previously free?
We determined that a technical issue impacted a small number of listings, which resulted in incorrect charges (including Gallery Plus, subtitles, and insertion fees) for some sellers. The issue has been fixed and we will be crediting impacted sellers as quickly as possible. No calls to Customer Service are necessary as credits will be issued automatically.
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option is grayed out and I can’t select it. When will the issue be resolved?
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option issue resulted from the category changes update and has been resolved. eBay Standard Envelope is now available in applicable categories if your item meets the established criteria.
Should I edit my listings if they’re in the wrong category, have been moved to another category, or have wrong or missing item specifics?
No. Recent category changes require updates to many thousands of servers and data changes to nearly every aspect of our platform. This level of adjustment takes time, which is why we asked for your patience while the process runs. We expect most data updates to be completed within 48 hours, but can they take up to a week (i.e., through Oct. 19). After that, if you have an item specific in mind that you think would work well for your listing, please consider adding it as a custom item specific.
Why isn’t my item coming up in search?
The category change update is still in process. We anticipate search issues will resolve when we complete most data updates during the next 24-48 hours.
There are more item specifics now than ever before. Do I need to fill in all of them?
No. Item specifics that you have already filled in will be maintained as the category moves are completed during the next week. In addition, new soon-to-be-required item specifics are being added and will become required by Feb 22, 2022. As always, the more item specifics you fill out, the better visibility your listing has to buyers.
For Parts & Accessories, when will fitment/compatibility charts start working again?
There was an issue with parts compatibility not working properly as the category changes rolled out that has been resolved. You should now be able to see the options to add fitment compatibility when editing your listings.

Ebay, you can't be serious with this response.
Hi Walter, thanks for your message. I'm sorry to hear this has been such a rough experience with these category changes. In the past when we have updated categories, much of the information does get retained on the listing even when it is moved to the new category. However this can often take some time to get completed.
In the meantime, I would recommend adding your item specifics back in where you can. To be clear, I'm not saying you need to drop everything else and make this your primary focus. I'm just suggesting that you add them back in as you go whenever you have the chance. This way you are minimizing the amount of time your listings are without their proper information and also minimizing the impact that can cause. ~Kyle

Kyle - you MUST BE JOKING! We are paying eBay to showcase our listings. This is eBay's fault - not ours! We should not have to waste our time correcting your DISASTER! If I have to spend time on this, I expect major financial compensation!

Postcard updates not useful. Some of my searches are corrupted, eBay tried to substitute them without success.

What are topographical postcards and non-topographical ones not clear.

I'm not sure if this is a built in feature of how search is supposed to work or a defect. But going from books and clicking on Hardcover(tab) brings up the following very short list of books = 0 Listings. Clicking on the book tab, retrieves a magazine followed by an assortment of everything else. Curious to know how many people use HC vs Hardcover as part of their title or how the search is truly working for this.
eBay>Books & Magazines>Children & Young Adult Books>Hardcover Books
Testing search is just finding more headaches.
-Lotz
PS. In testing several other tabs only brought up recently viewed items or a random current (personal) listing.

Yes, it was likely a total waste of time. Don't quite know why you're taking this personally, though. It's no reflection on you whatsoever, but rather the dismal lack of CS.

Actually, I think they are working exactly as eBay intended. I used to chuckle when in the past people would say that eBay is trying to eliminate the vintage sellers. After this debacle, I'm inclined to believe that maybe that is their intention after all. They seem to be zeroing in on one Collectible category after another, starting in 2019 or earlier. You don't see them eliminating categories for the Chinese Junk, or new in-the-box stuff like you see on Amazon. Hope I'm wrong, but can't help but wonder.

Update tried to list my miniature porcelain doll house tea set again TODAY 10-21-2021 and I STILL CAN'T LIST it in the DOLLS-DECOR, ACCESSORIES Category because it REQUIRES A CONDITION FIELD TO BE FILLED OUT yet THERE IS NO CONDITION FIELD ON THE FORM!! PLEASE FIX THIS! Can't sell things if they are sitting in UNSOLDS to to EBAY BROKEN CODE!

Foreign Customer Service Reps KNOW NOTHING and SAY ANYTHING to get you off the Phone. I read your response to my post a bit upstream about calling them. I have been around long enough to know that doing that IS A HUGE WASTE of my PRECIOUS TIME. Please don't be offended those responses by others are TRUTHFULL. I have enough items to list in many other categories and I will let my Tea Set sit and NOT BE SOLD here until Ebay cleans up their act. And I most assuredly will not waste any of my time calling reps who are not able to do anything about these kinds of issues. This is a IT issue, they are the ones who need to be spoken to and IT is not ALLOWED to take calls form us.

“Don’t know why you’re taking this personally…” What makes you think I was taking it personally? I reported here what I was told by ebay CS, which I thought we were supposed to do. CS said that we should call and make our issues known to Ebay. Your response indicated that you would not call CS because they are blowing smoke and apparently, by responding that way, might be encouraging others not to call either. I want the problems solved and even though the odds are slim that they will be solved, making our concerns known to ebay is the only chance we have right now. Nothing personal, just baffled as to why you would rather discourage than encourage people to call, when that’s what I was told by ebay CS. I have no idea who you are or what influence you have over ebay, so it is frustrating when ebay says that the more of us who call, the better, and you’re saying don’t bother. I want it solved. And just complaining doesn’t seem to solve anything; action does. And calling CS is all we’ve got.

While I don't disagree with your sentiments at all, I don't think phoning CS will really achieve anything long-term. They're offshore operations hired to help users get through common problems on eBay, but I've seen no evidence that they're being consulted by higher-ups on long-term trends or specific complaints by users that they have no power to solve. The most we hear about interactions between CS and management in the U.S. is when someone in CS messes up royally, is complained about here, and receives unspecified "coaching" (as eBay calls it) about not doing that again.
I think it's more effective (relatively speaking) to put things in writing like we're doing here, as well as on Facebook or Twitter or eCommerceBytes or wherever else there is give-and-take about what eBay is getting wrong and how they need to fix it. I think that calling some mope with a headset in a cubicle who's reading questions and answers off a monitor is not likely to be productive enough to make it worth the time spent on the call by either you or him.

I've found while searching in the frames subcategory that if a new search is made from the search bar without unchecking every last item specific that is currently enabled hardly any results are returned. Assuming it is because the item specifics are different for each category. Now easier going to the home page to start a new search as that resets things. Needless to say, an inconvenience that never used to happen that way.

Ok so you waist your time as well as a cs rep that for sure in not authorized to change any thing......
