Order did not get delivered because the buyer failed to update his address.
Buyer saying "Just send another one to..."
I guess he expects me to send him another one without even getting the first one back AND pay for a second shipping.
Wouldn't any "reasonable" customer/person realize that this would not be fair to the seller?
Now I have to try and figure out how to delicately word a response to the buyer so that he will understand without p-ing him off.

Don't go by that. Yesterday, I had an item that showed on the USPS tracking page that the name wasn't known at the address and the item was being returned to sender. Today, it shows as delivered to that address. Weirdness...
@evry1nositswindy
Good point, but I don't think @inhawaii is going to send another out of hand anyway. Your post made me laugh though, as I am still waiting for a "return to sender" package from around 2006. LOL.

If you haven't messaged the buyer a reply yet @inhawaii , I'll addd to some of the suggested messages above and say it would be a good idea to throw in a link to the settings page where you update your addresses. Suggest buyer make updates there to both shipping & registration addresses and check next time they make a purchase that old addresses aren't lingering in checkout.

I went with a "short and sweet" response...
Hello Chris.
I am required to follow ebay protocol.
Once the item is returned to me you will receive a refund less shipping.
In the meantime you may re-purchase the item at any time, but this time please make sure you have the correct address.
Aloha,
James

I am so sorry you were not aware you needed to keep your address updated on E Bay. E bay requires sellers to ship to the address on file when checkout occurs. Hopefully the postal system will return the original item to me. If/when I receive the original I will be happy to cancel the original transaction, relist the item so you can repurchase using the correct address.
If you do not wish to go forward I completely understand. When the original item is returned I will refund you minus the original postage and any fees I have incurred due to the incorrect address.
PERFECT!!

This is not about being fair to a seller, it's about admitting a mistake and living up to it and paying for their own mistake, that's what I would do if I entered wrong address on a shipment.

I do not believe the buyer is being honest. This is why he wants a 2nd one for free. If he sees another is on it's way for free then, he plans on retrieving the 1st from the PO? Sneaky!

Your item purchased is waiting for you at the old address. You can pick it any time.
Regards,
Seriously - this is a great response. Why should the seller say they're sorry? Even worse, the passive-aggressive "I'm so sorry you didn't update your address etc." Wut?
@inhawaii Your response is right on. Your buyer might be being kind of sly, but fortunately it doesn't matter.

Most buyers are not trying to scam everyone. Sometimes stuff happens and it is simply legit. You seem to look for the negative in most things.

If I thought most buyers were scammers, I would not be selling online. You just admitted it, though. Most are not but some are. I believe this buyer is 1 of them.

I have always said that most buyers are good honest people. If they weren't, there would be no reason for all of us selling here. Not sure what you thought I "admitted", I was pretty clear about what I actually said.

And of course we can keep this in our back pocket for the belligerently demanding buyer.
Which basically says the seller doesn't owe the buyer who doesn't know his own address one red cent.

Sure, a 'reasonable' customer would but since when did being 'reasonable' become a requirement for being a buyer? Many buyers are good about owning their errors and paying for them but not all. I recently had a 'buyer' order an item, cancel the order a day after I had shipped them, refused delivery and then screamed like a baby when I deducted the original shipping (buyer pays shipping) from the refund. I guess people are willing to be labeled as a petty thief just to save a few bucks. Some people think it is totally reasonable for us sellers to pay for their mistakes.

When you say 'most' are, it does not mean 'all' are honest. Therefore, you are admitting there are scammers. Seemed like pretty simple English to me. 🙂 Just because I think this buyer is 1 does not mean I'm saying all buyers are scammers.

And da' twackin's funky now with some the UspS-off.
I'd a parcel come from Florida that showed it was accepted and never showed another thing until it arrived on my doorstep. I called the UspS-off and was told that the UspS-Off now has some sorta fartanium about getting notified of tracking for $$$.
The new hit sellers game show, "Tracking for $$$!"
"Spin the wheel and catch the toilet paper sheets and you can win a brand new cow!"

My response,
"Do you have an appointment?"
