Unpaid Order-Do I have to lie to cancel it?

Or should, or can I, even open an unpaid  item dispute?

There is no The buyer did not bother to pay and I want it gone.   I've waited four days because eBay refused to let me open an unpaid item dispute.  They won't let me open an item not received either.

So do I have to lie and use the address line?

You are right.  Not a good day for me.  I had chemo yesterday after finding out that my Husband had a small heart attack on Thursday and I doesn't want me to make the trip to see him   (He's 2.5 hours away)  or go to another hospital while I'm immunocompromised.   So, I'm not doing great.  And I cannot think.

Just take care of yourself! You have plenty of time to cancel that unpaid transaction. It can wait until you and your husband are situated.

Keep in mind you can set those unpaid item cancellations to be processed by eBay automatically by setting your preferences here:

Preferences for items awaiting payment

Once you flip the toggle switch to the far right of "Automatically cancel unpaid items," more options will come up for you to complete. You can select how many days you wish to give buyers before cancelling, choose whether you want the unpaid item relisted, and/or exclude specific buyers if unusual circumstances arise.

Good luck on all fronts!

Re: Unpaid Order-Do I have to lie to cancel it?

You put in the unpaid dispute AFTER 4 days, which is the 5th day, to the hour.

I know, I really do know what a pain it is to wait.  But giving that strike is ultimately the goal, so other sellers don't get burned.

Don't use address, give them the strike.

I think you have to wait till day 5 to cancel using 'Buyer hasn't paid'. (I don't see the need for an INR, either.) Hmmm...

Re: Unpaid Order-Do I have to lie to cancel it?

You are the SELLER, right? I ask because you mention opening an INR case, which is usually a buyer's option.

If a buyer has not paid within 4 days, on day #5, you can open an unpaid item case.

What would you be lying about? Just wait 4 days and open case on day #5.   Also, you can now set your listings so that eBay does this for you automatically.

Re: Unpaid Order-Do I have to lie to cancel it?

Hey @divwido

There’s no longer UPI disputes to file.

Sellers now CANCEL orders on Day 5 (or after 96 hours) … choosing ‘Buyer hasn’t paid’ as the reason.  And that’s it.  Buyer gets a UPI strike on their account.

The 96-hour time frame no longer applies to the unpaid item cancellation process:

Just adding that the automatic cancellation, should you choose to activate it, follows the 96-hour timeline for cancellation:

Re: Unpaid Order-Do I have to lie to cancel it?

OK, let's hope it's fixed.

I'm sorry,  It's been a tough couple days.  I'm fine and cancer free but have one more preventative chemo to go.  My husband is better, they are just waiting now on an echocardiagram to be sure.   But, chemo the week before Christmas was a disaster and him being so far away is hard.   I need a couple days of sleep and I'll be fine.

Heh... 😊 I remember that whole conversation now...

The consensus after much discussion and anecdotal evidence was that you can manually cancel on the fifth calendar day (you will have an option for "Buyer didn't pay" that would not have been available on previous days), but if you have your seller options set up to close it automatically, that will be triggered right bang on the 96-hour mark from whenever the sale occurred, so getting it done automatically will save you some time. Your option to set that up is on this page:

https://www.ebay.com/Cancel/Preference/UnpaidPurchase

If you had your old automated Unpaid Item Assistant (from the old system) set up to do automatic closures for you, the new Unpaid system is already activated for you. Otherwise, you need to go to the page above and turn on the "Automatically cancel unpaid items" option. (There is also an exception list maintained on that page if you want to exclude buyers whom you're allowing to pay late.)
