Unpaid Auctions...is a real problem...at least for me!

Yes .....yes. I know all about what to do when......BUT the problem is at the root of how payments for won auctions are handled. Why do I have to jump through hoops to have my listing fees reimbursed sometimes in the future, when it would be the easiest thing to release the Immediate Payment required function for won Auctions.

Every reputable Auction House online has that in place.

Buyers DO NOT take this serious at all..! They think it's just a fun game. So I have a block on bidders that have 0 feedback..still...they bid and win. And then....nothing. Many sellers gave up on auctions entirely, others from my FB group are doing fine. Is that the reason why nothing changes about the Rule?

There is no block for "0" Feedback buyers, perhaps that's why they are still bidding. You can block buyers with a feedback score of less than 0 and you can block buyers who have 2 or more Unpaid Item Strikes.

This was the very reason that I stopped doing auctions several years ago. However, I'm having to rethink this because I feel like I'm wasting the 250 "free" auction listings that are a part of my basic store subscription. I did notice that eBay automatically opened an "unpaid item" case after 2 days so I did warn bidders about that in my listings. I'm not sure if they still do that or not. I did "show NO mercy" to deadbeat bidders and in most cases, got my money without getting negative feedback in retaliation.

It sounds like you opted into the Unpaid Item Assistant, and have it set for 2 days to automatically open an UID if not paid, and automatically close after 96 hours if no payment is received.  The buyer cannot leave feedback.

I have a premium store, and I do not use the auction format at all.

This ties up your item and you cant relist, frustration.

Premium  Store as well. THAT does not mean you cant offer a variety for your shoppers.

In any case I will turn the assistant on now. I had a feeling that manual will be faster to get my listing fees back.

Thanks

Re: Unpaid Auctions...is a real problem...at least for me!

We put all our items up for auction. When they don't sell there, they go in our store.

We probably have about 2000 sales a year and I can count on one hand how many didn't pay (over the last 10 years or so). It's probably the different things we sell.

When someone is slow to pay we send them a note: Hello, I don't think we got payment on this yet. Did you send it?

That is usually enough for them to pay. And we often get an apology too.

Good luck!

The catch with that is that every reputable Auction House online probably does not have the simple eBay MBG policy where a buyer that really did not want to pay has an easy solution that would cost the seller more in the long run.

Re: Unpaid Auctions...is a real problem...at least for me!

I have had to open three non-payment cases within the past 7 days. Prior to this I haven't opened 3 in the past 3 years. Time to rethink auctions.

Re: Unpaid Auctions...is a real problem...at least for me!

I have never seen Ebay address this issue, all they have is their opened unpaid Item option which is a joke, I say have bidder requirement to have a payment method on fill and if they don't make payment after 3 days , eBay should go in and withdraw funds for payment, just like they do to sellers to collect selling fee's each month. Thank you

Re: Unpaid Auctions...is a real problem...at least for me!

Ebay will never let you block "0" feedback bidders. They want new bidders on ebay. You have to win some items to get some feedback. I have had many "0" feedback winners who have not paid. If I am going to list auctions then I just get used to it. That is why now I mostly list buy it now, with immediate payment. If they dont pay while buying the cant buy.

Way back when, I did use auction style, and continued to do it when GTC was foisted on us.  However, all I did was ended up relisting all of them.  Waste of time.  I simply list at about 20% off of original price, and if the item shows up to send an Offer to a Watcher, I will reduce the price by another 10% if it is still profitable.

I have spent around half a million on eBay over the years. I will not give eBay access to my credit card because some yahoo is inconveniencing sellers.

is IPR worth losing a lot of longtime great buyers? I think most sellers would rather deal with inconvenience and keep good buyers 🤷‍♀️
