Received $9 cash today in a white envelope wrapped in a white piece of paper with nothing written on in. Looked at my closed unpaid item and didn't see anything that matching $9. Buyers, if you are going to pay cash please write someplace inside or even outside of the envelope what it is for. As of now I guess it is for beer. 🙂

A-n-n-n-d the line forms, just to the right, of eBay posters who will now claim to be the mystery buyer, requesting that you send them -- whatever --, and apologizing for "forgetting" to write their names and addresses.
Sounds like guilt money, to me.
Or maybe a blackmail payment, for a really minor offense. Did you witness a jay-walking incident, maybe, and the perp is trying to buy you off for $9.00?

Did you buy something and this is a shipping refund?
There are some sellers on eBay who mistakenly fear that a partial PayPal refund will cause a defect.
Back in the good old days, I was once paid by a buyer who mailed $500 cash internationally and put no return address, note or item number on the envelope.

Can you look at the postmark on the envelope (if you didn't throw it away) and at least get an idea of what part of the country it came from and possibly narrow down what it might be for?

It's not likely from a buyer. Where would they get your mailing address?
It could be from a seller, a partial refund as another poster mentioned.
It could be from a random stranger, who gets his thrills by imagining someone's response to getting $9 anonymously in the mail. Give him a toast with your surprise beer fund.

From the shipping lable or from the sales record file.

To my mind, it's not worth stressing or spending any amount of time worrying or wondering about. It's a rather insignificant amount, and if the sender wasn't concerned enough to enclose information along with the cash, then it's only worth a, "Thanks whoever!" ... and go on with life.

Maybe you received the new beta paperless tax refund via a Trump lotto? --the 9 dollars = 1 dollar for each year until the goverment can get both parties to agree and make it offical--- Congrats!

It's always a good idea to check around vending machines.
Sometimes people forget to take their cash or the machines just spit them out.

I know, it's crazy, but it's true, cash on the ground.
