Unfair Negative Feedback on Nic-A-Dated Buffalo Nickels

I recently received some unfair negative feedback stating that some Nic-A-Dated Buffalo nickels I sold were dateless, which is incorrect. Seller never messaged me or informed me about grievances, just left a negative with his complaint. Condition of the item is clearly stated as “heavily circulated and Nic-a-dated” and I have verified many times with a high power coin scope that the dates and mint marks are correct.

Time to craft a smart negative feedback reply. Tip: don’t call the buyer any nasty names in the reply. I’ve been seeing that lately from some sellers.

Keep it professional, like @bigdeals.etc said, its best to keep name calling out of it. I have seen sellers do this and they come here and ask why there are no buyers

Well, this is hind sight, but I think it should have been noted in the listing that the dates were unreadable except when treated with the acid wash, giving a temporary raising of the date marks. Obviously the buyer did not know what NIC dated meant, but things like missing dates and the treatment needed to procure them would have made a difference here. One cannot assume the buyer will be well-informed.

Next time define "Nik-A-Date" in your listing and let the buyer know that they will need a "High power coin scope" to see the dates.

You also cannot have conditions for your return policy. If you take returns you take them for any reason, not just for "Inaccurate product description".

I don't think ebay will remove that.  My suggestion for a reply:

"I thought i did a good job of describing the coins but if you are not happy, please return for a full refund."

eBay is making it easier to appeal negatives. Message customer service within 30 days and don't give up after the 1st shot. We dipped to 98.4 but at least 3 are for FedEx Ground issues. eBay should step in as it hurts our business. Anything less than 99 looks bad!!

Frankly I might look at a seller feedback if it's below 98% and see what's going on but it doesn't slow anyone down from selling.   I average about 200 feedbacks in 12 months so it would only take three to put me below 99%.  If I see comments whining about things a seller can't control, or buyer remorse stuff, I ignore them. 

As for the OP, since you can reply with more characters now, you can say "Coins were advertised as heavily worn and dated per Nic-A-Date process, which can be seen under high powered scope.  If the buyer is unhappy with the items they can always return for a refund, but so far I have not heard from them." 

I had no idea you could even do that with Buffalo nickels, nor that it would even be worth doing since it seems like they made 98% of them in 1936 and 1937.  I can count the number of older ones I have personally handled on the fingers of one hand.  But anyways, as others have stated if your listing doesn't include an explanation of this process and what's required to see the dates you probably should add it.

I have already updated my other listing containing similar coins, stating that a loupe or coin scope may be necessary to correctly identify all of the coins.

The Nic-A-Dating is usually worth it, as I only chose dateless coins with mint marks from the bulk bins I am searching. Furthermore, dateless nickels are more likely to be earlier coins, just because they have had another 20 or so years to wear compared to the 30s examples- I have not yet found a 30s coin when Nic-a- Dating

I could be incorrect, but I have seen many listings from many sellers stating that they accept returns only for "egregiously incorrect description" but not simple "remorse returns"

all dates were readable by me (relatively young) without the need of a loupe, but a loop was used anyway to confirm all coins were the exact dates specified. Dates did not need to be acid treated again to be read as of when I sent them off.

What you're seeing others doing is not allowed. If you accept returns, they have to be accepted for any reason.

interesting. Here is an example of such a listing from a rather large seller, so this does not seem to be enforced. Their description clearly states that they do not accept remorse returns
