Unauthorized Return to me

I sold some sneakers through eBay authenticity guarantee ($2500). Funds have already been released to me weeks ago. Buyer opened claim saying item was not as described. eBay backed me up and closes the case in my favor because it went through authenticity guarantee. Buyer then opened a dispute and eBay AGAIN went in my favor. Now the buyer went and open a case with the financial institution (still in progress). He sent me a screenshot yesterday of his PayPal resolution center saying that eBay has agreed to give him a refund of the $2500 as long as he ships the shoes back. So without me knowing or the case even being closed, PayPal gave him my address, he shipped the shoes back (did not go through authenticity guarantee when shipped back to me) and now PayPal is trying to force a refund out of MY pocket for the $2500. What is going on?!?! Someone please explain . I will go to court if I have to. This is absolutely ridiculous that PayPal would even give my address and tell him to simply return the item, force the money out of my account when there is an ONGOING case between eBay and his or her financial institution. Someone please help.

Re: Unauthorized Return to me

That is how chargebacks work, only with a credit card usually the buyer isn't required to send the item back.

Just because the buyer can't open a case anymore on Ebay doesn't mean they can't go to their payment source (Paypal or a credit/debit card).  Paypal gives 180 days from the date of purchase and cards give 60 to 180 days.  The money is never yours until after six months has passed.

When this happens there is little or nothing a merchant can do except bend over and take it.

It's the same anywhere on or offline where you accept a reversible form of payment such as Paypal or a credit or debit card.

Re: Unauthorized Return to me

I'm sorry about your issue but you are confusing eBay with the payment source for the buyer. You sold on a platform, which is eBay, but your buyer used a different platform for payment, which was PayPal. While the buyer lost their case with eBay, they are welcome to go to their source for payment and open a dispute that way. They actually have 180 days to do so. This is what online selling is like. At this point you should do what you can to get the shoes back, so you aren't out the money and the product. You may very well end up in small claims court so document everything. Best of luck to you....

@hugmar_2

You need to reach out to the authentication team and let them know what is occurring.

e-Bay should have a mechanism for the items that go thru their process for the high-end sneakers.

Especially if they are claiming they are fakes.

Re: Unauthorized Return to me

In my opinion ebay should cover you as you used THEIR program to make sure the buyer received an item  as described. The item PASSED  inspection on the item description  and was mailed to the buyer. So  ebay already knew it was as described.

I do not understand how the buyer got your address for the return as ebay should have given out the address of the authenticity program to return the item, as described on their own rules.

I would definitely take up an appeal against EBAY and the authenticity program.. You can't do anything against Paypal.

Especially if the buyer returned an unauthentic item instead of what yuo originally mailed out to them.

That is why it should have been shipped back to the authenticator.

Once the authenticator confirms the item is consistent with the listing title, description, and images, they perform a physical authentication inspection. If the inspector cannot determine that the product is authentic, or if the product is not as described in the listing, the item will be returned to you and the buyer will receive their money back. If the item passes inspection, it will be shipped to the buyer with 2 day secure delivery. Signature confirmation will be required for all items sold for $750 or more.

Returns with Authenticity Guarantee

If a buyer wants to return an authenticated item, your return policy as stated in the listing will apply. Authenticated items are covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee, assuming all other eligibility criteria are met. For full details, read our eBay Money Back Guarantee policy.

When returning an item, the buyer will send it back to eBay's authenticators. They will check that the item is still in the same condition, has all relevant accessories, and that the eBay Authenticity Guarantee tag is still attached and hasn't been tampered with. Once the item has been re-authenticated, it will be returned to you and the buyer's refund will be processed.

Since the buyer went to Pay Pal, Ebay is out of the picture.

If you had accepted the return through Ebay, they would have gone through authenticity center, but I don't think Pay Pal is to worried about that.

Have a great day.

@janet9988

Those policies deal with eBay claims.  This is not an eBay claim.  Going to tag velvet@ebay  and see if she can direct the OP @hugmar_2  someplace other than the regular customer service  for this, or can affirm that all those "authenticity guarantee" issues and rules go down the proverbial drain when a Payment Dispute is filed.

Re: Unauthorized Return to me

eBay is telling me I’m basically screwed and I have to pay out of pocket. After they already released my funds weeks ago and it was spent on rent , food etc and is not in my account anymore.

Re: Unauthorized Return to me

Yes I’m just realizing this now. I have an option to appeal as well and if I win then I’ll get the money back. But this is so crazy to me. I never would’ve thought this would happen to me.

When you hit Submit on the payment dispute @hugmar_2 that's when eBay offered -- and you accepted -- to give PayPal, and points beyond PayPal, your return address. Aside, eBay not PayPal is forcing the refund from your pocket: PayPal has no access to your pocket, neither in a payment dispute nor an eBay case.

But instead, you had the option to cancel the payment dispute at the bottom. Why didn't you do that?

Re: Unauthorized Return to me

Has anyone told the OP   to end all   of his or hers list's over $100.00  , because  sellers with under  300 feedback are targeted by scam buyers  . Second this Op is selling in high buyer  fraud scam category  ,despite using ebays authentication   program   which back him or up  ,did not stop that Buyer from filing  a dispute  with paypal  .

When you sell online, the money isn't really safe to spend for 6 months.

Pay Pal and most credit cards give buyers 6 months to file a claim.

Have a great day.
