USPS package intercept for INR?

I have 2 INR'S that I am going to have to refund sometime today, would it do any good to do a package intercept on these so if they finally decide to  deliver them that I could get the items back instead of the buyer getting them for free?

I take it they haven't shown any movement in the past week? If they have then eBay will extend 5 days to the case and if it shows movement in that 5 days they will extend 5 more days.

I think it is hit and miss with intercepts. Costs about ~$17 per intercept if successful.

Someone refresh my memory once again, if eBay steps in and does a refund on a INR, does the seller get a defect on their account? (Not asking about Seller Metrics)

so how do you get the 5 day extension?  I do not think that those last 4 scans are really scans.
I went ahead and put a intercept on one of them, $18.35 no charge if unsuccessful.
The local USPS explained that it is taking so long because it is Ground advantage and not priority

So UPS has been hitting me with regular bogus "special handling" charges so I cut way back on UPS but may have to rethink that, at least they get the item delivered

I have been having excellent results with UPS Ground and UPS Ground Saver. Same delivery times for both shipping out of DFW.

Buying the labels thru eBay and PirateShip, (whomever is cheaper)  I hear that PirateShip is easier to file a surcharge dispute.

If the packages are not a perfect square or rectangle or they lose their shape during shipping, those are the most likely to garner surcharges.

Rarely ever seeing any delays.

@bashort

I have used UPS for years and rarely have any major issues or delays. (sometimes a day or two late)

Although i am sure there has been cases where UPS does make mistakes on overcharging, it does seem like most of the issues (special charges) are what @lakefor94 has suggested.

If this is USPS I would place a missing mail search on the tracking number. Within that they ask if the mailpiece is found where should it be sent. Have it returned to you and this cost you nothing. At least if it is found you can re-sell and not lose all the way around.

what they were getting me on is I was shipping what amounted to a flat piece of sheet metal sandwiched between 2 pieces of cardboard, then basically taping the whole sandwich solid with packing tape, been doing this for years no problems, then started getting "special handling" charges and I think it was because they the automation thought it was shrink wrap which triggers special handling.

Switched to Pirate ship for all UPS and have still got hit but have been able to successfully appeal.

I just contact eBay and ask for an extension

@bashort That is ridiculous. I wonder if you dropped it off at the UPS counter if they would still be flagged or not. If you do a lot of shipping, have you considered opening a business account with UPS? Might give you a better line of communication although I am not sure if their business account rates are competitive.

Hope it clears up for you.

There is more going on with the USPS service and they will not respond to the local media here in Indianapolis.

You stated: The local USPS explained that it is taking so long because it is Ground advantage and not priority

That seems to be a poor excuse from them. Possible push for another money grab? USPS started the ground advantage in July 2023. Never has been a problem until now.

Personally, my packages going out are great, but my purchases coming in via USPS are 50/50.

There have been various black holes in the USPS network and they move about.

Indianapolis certainly has had that status the past few months.

I understand that USPS has blamed the problem on labor shortages. I certainly believe there is a labor problem but whether it is solely shortages, or the fundamental difficulty of managing the USPS workforce required opinion on the part of outsiders, or candor on the part of USPS.

You have my sympathy.
