Wednesday, Dec. 5th has been declared a National Day of Mourning for former President George H.W. Bush. Federal offices will be closed. I can't find if it's been formally announced by USPS yet, but sellers on another site are anticipating that the PO will be closed on Wednesday. Just a heads up to pay attention for further announcements and to plan accordingly.

Not ideal timing, but certainly better than the week before Christmas! If it happens at all, that is.

"The Postal Service will suspend regular mail delivery and retail service Dec. 5. USPS will provide limited package delivery service on that day to ensure that the Postal Service network remains fluid and USPS does not experience any impacts to its package delivery operations that might negatively affect customers or business partners during the remainder of the busy holiday season.
All Postal Service facilities — including headquarters in Washington, DC, and area and district administrative offices — are included in the national day of mourning. Local managers will advise employees on staffing levels to maintain operations and prepare for the resumption of regular activities Thursday, Dec. 6."
So excited to see how eBay's programming will handle this extra day.

Well, at least now we have an announcement to work with... I'm assuming that limited package deliveries will not include carrier pickups. If regular mail delivery isn't happening, I'd think that pick ups wouldn't either.
Now maybe we should tag a blue for some guidance on late shipment metrics Guaranteed Deliveries, etc. and ask if there's going to be any official announcement from ebay?
@Anonymous Can you help us out here? Thanks!

I was wondering about that too.
Will (automatically, not "call CS") eBay protect sellers from undeserved dings on shipping metrics?

My first guess - the 'new' shipping screen will handle it fine (skipping 12.5 as a ship day) but the classic version will not. (saw it happen that way with the last holiday)

Hi @tealt,
I've asked our Shipping team about our plans around this. I'll let you know what I hear back.
Thanks.

I'm certainly happy I now have a 2 day handling. Ebay has a hard enough time getting the regularly scheduled holidays programmed correctly.

Anyone who doesn't update their listings to an extra day of handling for this suprise holiday is just asking for trouble in your metrics. Unless I get an email from Ebay stating they are giving everyone a pass for not getting carrier scans on Wednesday I will change my same day handling to 2 day handling.

Good idea. As of 5:06 PM EST eBay had not updated the "ship by".

Well, here's the official word at the top of usps.com:

As of 5:30 PM on Monday, both versions of the label form were offering Wednesday as a mailing date:

I talked with my carrier when she came to pick up packages. She didn't have knowledge of the announcement at that time, but said the subject had been discussed this morning at my local PO. If she got the day off, subs and temps who weren't eligible for the paid holiday were going to be the ones working, doing the limited package deliveries. She said she was glad for that, because otherwise, Thursday would have been a disaster. She also said she expected some mis-deliveries with subs and temps only doing unfamiliar routes. She said no matter which way you look at it, it's going to be a big mess.
I saw other convos on the net that people were saying that their particular PO was planning on being open as usual. Confusing.
