Should I try an experiment for the masses? Help give an indicator of what really happens on eBay? The experiment ---> list 1000 auctions - all starting at $0.99. Would I be able to sell 80 of them? lol Would it be worth the effort to earn $42? 😛 Of course, $25 of the $42 would need to cover my cost for having a store again. I would be able to buy a 2 for 1 fish & chips meal. Who wants to fine dine with me? 🤣

I read the other replies and all I can say is only if you're a pig for punishment-so to speak.
I only buy but do read the sellers posts and having to deal with that many auctions and having to deal with all those people in a short time frame,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,?
I make great fish and chips (halibut) but no longer reside in Canada (I'm dual) so I'll have to pass on dining.
P.S. A tip I learned from a Chinese chef when using tempura batter...put a little vanilla pudding mix in the batter.......................

I don't think you are "shady" at all, I do think that you have been complaining about a lack of sales for the past 8 years and you've done virtually nothing to change the products that you sell.
If you list desirable items for 99 cents you will sell lots of them, if you list stuff that is proven to be non-sellers then not so many (but probably a few).

IF any thing you will have listed is worth shooting - initially you can expect to receive beaucoup order for 99 cents and can qualify for being an ONFPO >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Obviously Not For Profit Organization.
Enjoy Yourself

Nope! I'm not going to change the "products" that I sell because, for 1 thing, items I sell are all over the map (different categories) & they are items you cannot just get up & go buy at any store. Also, I prefer to try & sell items where there are not 200-800 people to compete with. Next - I am , currently, in no position to go out & buy so I have to sell what I have. I'm not selling junk (I know that no one said I was). I just need the luck to have the right buyers locate my listings & decide if they find value in owning it.

I would not rely on luck in today's environment @sakic92710 . Don't do it.
Just tighten up your current listings and try to list one item per day.

I would definitely roll with the chicken strips and slaw rather than the fish.

@sakic92710 You aren't very clear, but I assume you are not proposing to list all 1000 to end on the same day?
Obviously, that could make shipping difficult if you are very successful with sales (unless you are only listing items that are very easy to ship.
As I said, there are sellers who list 99 cent auctions and and do well. I see some here suggesting that you list only inexpensive items, etc. Those I've seen be successful with this do the opposite: they list items that are worth a decent amount and , yes, they take a risk that the item could sell for less---maybe much less---than they would like. On some items, they WILL lose money, or at least, they will leave money on the table. They don't focus on individual items, they focus on their overall profitability. And sales velocity.
Those who make this work are willing to take the risk.
Only you know what inventory you have, how much you paid for it, how much risk you are willing to take, and what your present situation is....
But it CAN work.

If you list a Lions Club banner for $0.99, I might bid on it.

What? How come? Other than ice cold water to slow the gluten, I’ve learned you can use some cornstarch or carbonated water in the batter to crisp it up better.

If it's a good buy, it would likely sell. Prices vary as the crow flies in flea-markets. It's also a spot market where it's hit or miss on what sells at a given time.

Back in the day we listed around 1000, five day auctions, per week. ALL started at $9.99
All car parts.
It worked great.
We did that until it no longer worked.
That no longer works.

Would you be able to sell 80 of them?
Depends if buyers are looking for the items.
I wouldn't do auctions, just fix price them at $0.99 and see what happens.

A better experiment would be.
two user ID's.
300 items on one ID, priced cheaper than the competition.
300 of the same items on the other ID, priced 25% higher and promoted at 10%.
Compare results between the two at 90 days

I think that's the biggest problem on Ebay is buyers being able to find the items they search for without having to scroll through a bunch of promoted items that have nothing to do with what a buyer is searching for.

One of the first things I'll put up for $0.99 is a joke book by @hartungcards **Sense of humor not included.
