I've done it a many times.
A customer buys 2 items. Checks out separately. Does not take advantage of combined shipping. I pack them together. I give a partial refund on the second item for "combined shipping refund".
Then i'll upload the tracking number for the first item to the second item so that both orders show as "shipped" under the same tracking number.
Tonight it's not letting me. I'll keep trying throughout the day but i'm worried that the second order still shows at "not shipped". Any suggestions?

there is no way to add the same tracking number to two different orders if the buyer's user ID's are different on each order.
I think that's the reason for the trouble as Big Deal said.............

I'm not sure where they got that from. I never said the buyers IDs were different. I said the same buyer bought 2 of the same items but paid separately instead of together.

I don't understand why you are having an issue. Yesterday a buyer purchased 2 items using the cart, and then made an offer on a third item. I accepted and he paid separately. I shipped all 3 together. I printed the label for the purchase that was made with the cart. Then I added tracking number to the third one. I used the same tracking number. It worked fine. No need to mark as shipped. Just click on tracking number. Once entered it takes care of itself.

I'm not sure why it works for you. Mine was 2 totally separate purchases for the same item buy the same buyer. 2 different order numbers. It will no longer let me enter the same tracking number for more than one order. I've done it before many times ... but apparently it wont let you any more.

No ebay does not refund the buyer. Another issue is that if you do attempt to combine the shipping this now bigger and heavier box may actually cost more than the double fee ebay charged. Remember that the USPS dratically increases the cost as the box gets bigger. It is actually easier to ignore this ebay combine effort and ship separartely with different tracking numbers. Yes I should have stated this was a result of the customer putting the items in their cart and then making the purchase.

I just came here to see if anyone was having a problem with uploading tracking numbers. I had the same issue yesterday. A customer purchased two items but didn't take advantage of my combined shipping by adding items to his cart first. I shipped both items together but am not able to add the second tracking number. I think it affects my rating so will keep trying. I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to upload tracking within 24 hours and am past that time frame at this point. Hopefully it doesn't affect me too much.
