Just finished reading today's managed payments chat. Lots of good, specific questions and a lot of evasive, effusive spin from the blues.
I can't imagine not offering PayPal during the holiday season. Equally troubling is daily bank deposits that won't be credited for 2-4 business days.
Scary stuff, indeed.

Thank you for starting this thread following the Weekly Chat.
Especially, for those members who were not present at the Chat regarding Managed Payments.
Many members have raised critical posts to the issue.

Wasn't the beta test the one that they conducted using eBay employees? That is what I understood would happen ... the employees would test it first and then the invited sellers would be the first phase rollout starting in September.
For some reason it sticks in my mind that the eBay employees started testing in July. I wonder if all the eBay employees who sell on eBay were "required" to do the test?
I wonder how many invited sellers they need to do an adequate first phase rollout? What happens if that number is so small it won't even be an adequate test? Will they then start dumping random sellers in?
As I read all of this, know that I will not have to be a part of any of it, the only thing that comes to mind is "Checkout War". If you were not here for Checkout War you missed an interesting event.
One thing that jumped out at me yesterday was a comment that those who opt in next month are not in a "beta test". They are actually just the first ones using the live system.
You may have hit nail on the head on that.

They previously said they were launching this in Sept. Next month is Sept., and they're calling it a launch whether it's been satisfactorily beta-tested completely or not. What... were the beta testers using a "dead system" in August?

I'm not sure why it really matters. BETA or launched, it starts next month for a small number of sellers. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

EVERY YEAR they do this to us. They make major changes just before the important holiday selling season.
Why?
No change for YOU(at this point) unless you choose to opt in.

Because the assumption is that during a Beta test, most of the bugs, kinks and glitches are already ironed out before it goes live.
This being ebay, most likely not by a long shot, and the new launchees get to be the rats in the maze.
You've been here long enough to know that on Ebay that is not the case.

I myself am looking forward to the millions of international buyers that weren't able to purchase merchandise before coming aboard. That apple pay really has a ton of users...

The ebay employees were opted in to it during open, so they have been selling and presumably buying since then.........

Perhaps they think it gives the site a new look/feel for the Holidays?
Perhaps they do it because they know they can get away with it, and it is on their time-line for 'the future' - whatever they think that is.

That is exactly how I feel, so once there is no paypal, I won't buy from ebay
seems that the "no PayPal" will only affect the expected 5% of sellers in the initial launch of the new payment program.
The phase in of more sellers, and the acceptance of PayPal payments might roll in about the same time.

That is what Ebay has said. In this initial launch they are looking for sellers that are not dependent upon PP because they know it is a very important factor at this time.

Yeah, but.... If you've opted in you won't be able to use GSP to send ur merchandise and if your "metrics" go up because of INRs and/or SNADs you'll be paying 4% extra for the privilege. But saving two-tenths of a percent and 30 cents per in transaction fees so I suppose it will be all worth it. 😉
