I sold 2 separate items at the same on 2 diff Id's. I shipped together. Rec. defect on 1 account

I sold 2 separate items to one buyer on the same day on 2 different of my user Id's. I shipped together the next day to combine on shipping costs, printed Ebay shipping labels and uploaded tracking number.  I was already aware of only 1 user ID can accept and credit the tracking number so I received a defect on 1 account for "item not uploaded at all"

I had all of the information, tracking number, dates, item numbers, etc. So I thought I will call customer service, tell them the situation and they would remove the defect. Yeah, not happening. Just spent 30 min with customer service which was a total waste of time. The first rep was polite and I was put on hold 3 or 4 times at which time she said she would have to transfer me to a different customer rep that specializes in reviewing/removing defects. The 1st thing I was told is I shouldn't have more than 1 user ID, even though Ebay approved a second one, then I was told I shouldn't upload tracking numbers, and I replied, then I wouldn't receive credit at all for uploading tracking and would receive additional defects.

I wanted to share my story and I'm sure this has happened to many sellers. I also wanted to know if anyone called customer service and had defects removed in this situation.

Thanks

You can't use the same tracking number for 2 seller id's, you also can't use the same tracking number for 2 different buyer id's either.

You can have more than one seller id, however, you aren't supposed to sell the same items from both IDs, they should both have a unique set of listings.

When a buyer buys one. item. at. a. time. with. a. different. guest. account. for. each. item. you can't combine the shipping unless you are will to take shipping defects on all  but one transaction.

You're half right here. Yea, you aren't supposed to combine items if you sell from two different IDs. Yea, you save some money and it may not matter much to the buyer when they get it. But they might get confused, or spooked. And when buyers get spooked, they file cases on ebay.

But OT, while there isn't a way on ebay to upload the same tracking to a buyer who used 2 IDs, it's possible within Paypal. I do this often when buyers buy multiple times with guest accounts... which are different IDs most of the time.

When you say you received a "defect" for not uploading tracking, I assume you mean it was counted against your  "Tracking uploaded on time and validated" metric.

If so, this is not a "defect" - it is merely a transaction that is counted against a metric that provides a 5% margin of error to cover situations exactly like this.

If you run into a buyer like this more than once every 20 transactions, you'll need to weigh the benefits of saving money on shipping against the possibility of losing your Top Rated status.

@easymoneyant1003  You also leave yourself open to scammers when you combine two IDs. I was about 3 months new on eBay, selling the same collectibles on two IDs. One day the same buyer purchased items on both of my IDs. Not knowing any better I messaged her that all the items would ship together, and thanked her for her purchases. Well she saw me coming and as soon as the box arrived she opened an Item Not Received case on the ID with no tracking (this was over 7 years ago). And of course the more expensive items were on the account with no tracking. That was my first, but not my last, encounter with women (and yes they were women, and I dare say "old" women like myself) trying to scam me out of Hallmark knickknacks and Christmas ornaments. I sold several hundred Wee Forest Folk collectible figurines, prices ranging from $35-$300 with nary an issue. But the $5 Hallmark items attracted a different crowd (of mean old ladies!).

^^^^ This! I sell on multiple id's so this does happen on a regular (but not that frequent) basis. You just have to deal with the tracking uploaded metric ding. It's never been any type of problem for me but if I did have an id that was in any form of "danger" on that metric I would make sure to associate the tracking upload with that id.

To me it has nothing to do with saving money on shipping, it has to do with not trying to confuse buyers who at least in my case are probably well aware they are buying from the single seller using multiple id's. In most cases I've already offered them a combined shipping rate so to come back after the purchase/payment and tell them the combined discount is not applicable isn't going to make them very happy.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Yes, I understand this makes a seller even more vulnerable to scammers. I may have to, if this situation comes up again, or more frequently, ship them separately. It would probably save me in the long run.
