Did you mean:

This is more or less just a thing I wondered about.

I have had a couple of buyers that put a note like this when they either make an offer or purchase an item I sold.  Had this one today:

Buyer's note: payment for E1-731 as advertised No substitutions allowed. ..... thank you. 3/16/2024.

So.

My thing is, they had something similar in their offer, and when I accepted I noted that I never substitute an item like that, what you see is what you are getting, be sure to review the description and photos.

So when they purchased, they sent that again....

Now, their account looks fine, no major red flags, other than they hadn't purchased anything in over a year. No negative feedbacks left for anyone before, etc.

Just wanted an opinion, is this something that happens to some of you as well?

It just feels like they are trying to tell me how to do my sale?  Or no?   lol

Anyway, just off the top of my head.  Not too worried, but wanted to see what some of you had encountered.

Re: This is more or less just a thing I wondered about.

"Could you please package my item nicely?"

"I usually package all of my items like crap, but since you asked, I will package yours nicely."

I've seen something similar in a restaurant, when a group orders a round of beers, and one of the group goes out of the way to ask for a beer in a 'clean glass'.

If the server is on the ball, the server will return with a tray of obviously identical glasses of beer and hold one up and ask: "Which of you wanted the clean glass?"

I get that sometimes "I want what's in the picture". This is their way of saying no alternate item that is not in the listing can be sent instead. Like don't show a picture of an extra fine coin and then send a fine coin in it's place.

My listing states to see the photo for an exact representation of what you will be receiving (down to the same serial number on the banknotes).

When I get odd requests or unnecessarily aggressive messages, I generally attribute these things to prior bad experiences with other sellers.

I don't think that's aimed at you in particular. I think they send it as standard boilerplate with all their purchases of those items, maybe due to a bait-and-switch problem they encountered in their past. I know you addressed that in your reply to their offer, but I can tell you from experience in my buying account that a seller's message in those replies is not always easy to see.

I have not had that particular text as a message to me, but I've had similar messages from buyers where the somewhat generic wording hinted strongly that they send that to all their sellers.

Yeah, kinda what I had figured.  Anyhoo, already have processed it, ready to go out Monday.

This ^^ I've gotten messages asking me to please pack the item well/properly, etc. Given some of the awful packing jobs I've gotten from eBay sellers, I suspect they're just cautious now. If they write me I tell them I will pack with tender loving care!

Re: This is more or less just a thing I wondered about.

I get those on rare occasions. I sell a variety of things and have had buyers request that I put a note inside the package something to the effect of This is for job ......... need adapter. I assumed the person was an contractor and the note pertained to a job they were working on. I have had a few buyers ask me not to include a packing slip or any kind of receipt that showed the cost of the item that it was a gift. i had one that asked my if I had any Christmas wrapping paper  and would appreciate if I could wrap the item for the and put a name tag on the package. It was a small item and I complied with their request what the heck I was wrapping presents anyway.

Re: This is more or less just a thing I wondered about.

I had to mark that as the answer, that was too **bleep** funny!

I already got a response for that item above.  I shipped it, did my normal spiel with a personal message thanking them for shopping, how much they saved by making an offer, and included pictures of their purchase during packaging and as packaged.  (I do this for every single sale).

They sent a nice reply back sounding happy, so all good!

I often get replies to my messages that I do for every buyer, and never had anyone complain yet.  😜

In some cases it may be elderly folks that no longer have all their mental faculties, I run into this frequently with my customers in the real world and yes they pose questions such as those... Have to be patient and kind, just remember one day we may get to walk in their shoes.
