This is absurd! How is a Bluegrass record 'HATEFUL & DISCRIMINATORY' ???

I've been selling vinyl records in here for 20 years. I'm not going to comment on the person who felt it was warranted to 'report' my listing, but more so on the EBAY EMPLOYEE who looked at it and felt that this item should be removed.
Can't they use common sense ?? It's a RECORD!

The title of the listing : "COUNTRY GENTLEMEN - 'Johnny Reb/Buffalo Girls' 1968 Unplayed Country 45 on Rebel"

Rebel is a world-renowned music company that has specialized in bluegrass music for over 70 years.

I guess it's no surprise that the link on the 'message from Ebay' about this regarding "questions? contact us" takes me to a page about hazardous materials not allowed through the mail...and absolutely nothing else.

Oh, and where's my 15 cent credit for this auction listing since it's removal was baseless and unwarranted?

I typed inyto google - prohibited items on ebay and got this

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/prohibited-restricted-items?id=4207

Could not figure out under which category  they hid it.

That's a Help Overview page.

If you scroll down you'll see a dozen or so links.  If you click See Full Policy, you'll find links to a couple dozen other policy pages for various items and situations.

It's not any Category, it's closer to the start of the maze.

Re: This is absurd! How is a Bluegrass record 'HATEFUL & DISCRIMINATORY' ???

I thought clicking on that link what just give me more info on why they do this.

I did not think they would list a whole list of categories only to list another long list of categories.

That initial list is misleading, at least it was for me because I thought that was the banned list - not that it would lead me to another banned list.

IMO, get rid of the inital list and not refer to full policy.  Just start with it.

As far as it being an overview, when you type banned list on ebay, that is what comes up for me on my browser.

I would have been more than happy to use the 'mosaic' function if I 'ever' thought this record label was going to be an issue. I'm 69 years old, not born yesterday. This label doesn't connotate 'anything' to me except rare music.

Since there are a 'lot' of other sellers currently selling items on this same record label, a 'notice' from Ebay that it needed to be changed would seem like a better option. I would have done it right away.

I also have to think that adding the 'Confederate Flag' to the list of banned items was done in the last year, or maybe even in the last few months. Maybe when changes like that are made, sellers should be informed.

Right now, there are actually two 'flags' for sale here in Ebay. Also, actual photographs of Lee and others from the Civil War where these flags are prominently displayed. Since this was a well known part of our History, this 'banned issue' really needs to be fine-tuned and clarified. It never feels right when only 'some' listings are affected, but others are left as is.

Well, you know now. Really, a seller can't know any single rule. Ans one can't be expected to study all rules, unless you sell something you know that is offensive, like porn, weapons, drug related stuff etc.

Another point, don't look what other seller are doing bad. It's not helpfull. And meaningless, you will not not sell because you pixelized part of the image. But would add: "part of the image are censored due to eBay policy"

You can put censored even in the title, we all know that censored stuff sells better.

In my example with your image I used IrfanView. It's a free image viewer with some edit functions.

Here it's how (but I used Pixelize and not blur)

IrfanView > Image > Effects > Pixelize  (or Effect Browser > Pixelize )

Re: This is absurd! How is a Bluegrass record 'HATEFUL & DISCRIMINATORY' ???

Oh I know. Every time I list a military piece, I get the message about that as well.

The Civil War is American History. They teach it in school, complete with the flag. This idiotic ban needs to be brought to eBay's attention. So, is Colonial Revolutionary War items from the BRITISH side also not allowed, since they also lost?

How about the losing side of WW1? Korea? I sell a ton of Korea War Memorabilia. WW2? Are we pretending now that all these wars didn't happen and there was only one side?

I am stunned about the Confederate Flag. Total Idiocracy! This one needs to go onto the news, wow!

I am going to pull every single item I have with the Confederate Flag on it and list it in one of my stores. What utter nonsense! Who in the World has an issue with the Confederate Flag?

Stupid Bay.

Over and out, off to find all my Civil War treasures. If they take mine down, I will go postal and the it to the top as I no longer care anymore. They have done me wrong so many times with this nonsense too.

Pretty soon the color purple will be against their policies because it's PURPLE and hence, politically incorrect.

Watching about 40 items roll off right now on one of my stores with 0 views, 0 watchers and no sales. Yes, my stores are compromised eBay. You agree they are, yet you have still not done a thing to help me fix them. Thanks. Again. For NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Confederate Flag has BEEN in the news.  That's precisely why they instituted the policy.  Political correctness run amok.

If you think a ban of the confederate flag is newsworthy, you are a little bit late. The news media is generally interested in stories that are current, not topics that have already been thrashed to death for a decade.

Well, it's newsworthy to him, he apparently has listings with the confederate flag visible, and was not previously aware of this policy!  He's clearly not trying to intentionally violate policy (neither was the record seller), this is all a result of eBay's poor communications about policy changes.

What would be newsworthy (to the news) would be if eBay refused to march lockstep with PC culture and had NOT removed all listings involving Confederate flags.  That's a news story they did not want to see, so they banned them.

If a group ever gets together in sufficient numbers to demonstrate how offended they are by the "losing side" of the Korean war, then eBay will probably institute a ban.

But you do realize that no one actually lost the Korean War? It ended in a stalemate and an attempted armistice that the South never even signed. Technically, the war is still going on.

Actually, all items orginating from North Korea are already prohibited.  That's the result of federal government OFAC Treasury Dept. regulations.  Those are covered by yet another separate policy page.  Of course.

LOL!!!

Does a listing involving the Confederate Flag still violate eBay policy if you list it using the eBay Product catalog?

That's just great. I sell a ton of military items and have had and do have items with this flag on it currently up. More sitting here too.
Stupid policy eBay. The Civil War is American History, wow, shaking my head.

It is ridiculous....several years ago I listed a 1824 King George IV hand painted 12" truncheon and it was removed.  Technically it is a billy club.  Yet ebay sells Baseball Bats.   I can give umpteen examples.

Its puzzling why some people oppose  some things  but  are just fine with others that are much worse . Some of the rap music as an example  seems to promote   racism , sexism and horrific violence . Has anyone filed a complaint yet asking e bay not to allow  people to sell it ? I wonder why if not .  Tulips

It's the media outrage of the day... pop culture... whatever is trending on Twitter... problem.  You've got people freaking out over a rap musician dressed up like an Indian for a music video?  Yet the lyrics you cited draw crickets (and are selling just fine on eBay).  It's not eBay's fault though, they didn't start the whining over the Confederate Flag, and I cannot blame them for not wanting to get dragged through the mud on GMA and CNBC for not being on the bandwagon.  At least they didn't go totally crazy and ban the Washington Redskins!

I don't like these bans involving legitimate historical objects though.  Phrases like "Never Forget" and "Never Again" are associated ugly historical realities like the Holocaust and the pre-Civil War south.  A study a few years ago found only half of the world's population knew about the Holocaust, and 1/3 of those believed it a hoax.  But I understand corporations not wanting to get mixed up in the middle of that discussion, some reporter or interest group will call them "sympathizers".

The policy has nothing to do with the Civil War. It is because some alt right hate groups have taken and used the confederate flag like the Nazis took the swastika. Don't blame eBay for what the Neo-Nazis and KKK have done, the ban would never have happened if it were not for these hate groups.

A few days ago a seller was here with the same issue with her Hindu pieces being pulled because they showed a swastika. In Hinduism, the right-hand (clockwise) swastika is a symbol of the sun and the god Vishnu, while the left-hand (counterclockwise, called sauvastika) swastika represents the goddess Kali, night, and magic. The auspicious symbol of the swastika is very commonly used in Hindu art, architecture and decoration.

I am in the same boat as you are as I also deal in vinyl and have several copies of that 45 and others from the label. But I understand that you can sell these if you cover the symbol or flag. Post-it's are good for this I just cut a small square from the sticky end, it does not damage the record or leave a residue. ( I have has some pulled for nudity, too).  (the record, not me)
